From racing downhill slopes to building a company centered around precision, speed, and problem-solving, the drive has always been the same.

Three decades later, that same determination still powers the lab every day.

Happy 33 years to Nel PreTech — and to the guy who’s been pushing forward since day one!

Back from Memorial Day weekend and the production schedule is already full?

One of the biggest hidden bottlenecks in manufacturing today isn’t machining capacity.

It’s inspection.

Modern parts are more complex than ever, and traditional inspection workflows can struggle to keep pace with high-throughput production environments.

Our newest blog explores how 3D scanning companies are helping manufacturers:
✔ Reduce inspection bottlenecks
✔ Validate complex geometry faster
✔ Support Industry 4.0 workflows
✔ Generate data-driven quality insights

From additive manufacturing to aerospace and medical devices, advanced scanning technologies are changing how manufacturers approach quality control.

☀️ Summer vibes are rolling into the lab, and Maria is making sure the team stays entertained between inspections. 😂

Behind our serious inspection lab is a team that knows how to have fun together. The energy people bring into the workplace matters — and Maria always brings plenty of it.

Maria keeps the energy up, the laughs going, and the team in good spirits year-round.

Precision by day. Duck hunter by lunch break. 🦆🎯

Who else works with someone who keeps the whole office smiling? 👇

Most people only see the final inspection report.

Very few ever see where the data actually comes from.

Step inside the Nel PreTech lab for a quick behind-the-scenes look at some of the technology helping manufacturers verify precision every day — including our CMM systems built for high-accuracy dimensional inspection.

This is where:
👍️ Tolerances get challenged
👍️ Assumptions get tested
👍️ And manufacturing problems are solved

CT scanning may get a lot of the spotlight, but it’s only one piece of the inspection process. Different technologies solve different problems, and a modern metrology lab depends on knowing when to use each one.

We like showing the real side of the lab because engineering is more interesting when you can actually see the process behind the numbers.

If you work in manufacturing, you already know: precision doesn’t happen by accident.

Not everything inside an industrial CT scanner is aerospace, medical, or automotive.

Nel PreTech scanned a highly customized item — something where tiny internal details can completely affect performance.

There’s an interesting story behind this project that we’ll be sharing soon, but for now, we wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the scan process. 👀

Any guesses what it is?

Ancient coins. Modern technology. Real-world science in action.

Inside the Nel PreTech Corporation lab, AJ, Director of CT, helped the Illinois Institute of Technology Physics major Chioma Ufomba with a fascinating research project using X-ray fluorescence to analyze ancient coins.

The project focuses on identifying 56 coins based on measurable characteristics like density, size, and material composition. It’s a great example of how advanced X-ray technologies can support research far outside traditional manufacturing applications.

Chioma studies under Dr. Khounsary, a long-time collaborator and friend of Nel PreTech, which made this project even more rewarding to be part of.

New equipment day is exciting.
Watching leadership sit down and learn it alongside the team? That’s culture.

Dave spent time getting caught up on training with our new Starrett Vision System this week. In precision inspection, technology keeps evolving — and staying engaged with it matters at every level.

Growth doesn’t stop when you become the owner.

You can’t always see the problem… but you can measure it.

Chad’s using a profilometer to capture the fine details of a surface—things like roughness and texture that can make or break how a part actually performs.

Because hitting the drawing doesn’t always mean it’ll work the way it should.

That’s where this kind of testing comes in.

Curious what your parts are really doing? Let’s take a look.

Failures don’t start on the surface.

They start:

-Inside the material
-At internal engagements
-Across worn contact zones

CT scanning reveals all of it—without cutting parts open.

From porosity to wear patterns to assembly misalignment, this is how engineers uncover the real failure mechanism.
