Specks Fabrication and Cutting is a locally owned and operated metal fabrication and cutting company founded in Thibodaux, La. Specks offers diverse metal fabrication and cutting services to various industries throughout the region. We utilize a Python X Robotic Plasma Cutter, CNC Plasma Cutter, and EMI pipe processor and an Oxyfuel cutting table for specialized cutting needs. We also use a robotic welder for some of our fabrication processes. Our skilled and committed team strives to provide quality service and craftsmanship for our customers.

Specks recently completed three intake hoods for the Bayou Lafourche Pump Station project, each measuring 16' long × 24'9" wide × 14'2" high and weighing approximately 40,000 lbs.

Sub-assemblies were fabricated at our Thibodaux fabrication facility before the final assemblies were completed at our marine facility in Houma. All plate was processed using our Kinetic K5000 XRM Plate Processing Machine and Messer Titan Plate Tables, while complex eccentric conical pieces were rolled on our DAVI Plate Roller.

From raw plate to final assembly, this project highlights the precision and capabilities Specks brings to all our projects.

Specks Fabrication & Cutting has begun fabrication of the Gulf Side Sector Gate for the Houma Navigation Canal (HNC) Lock Complex, a vital component of the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System.

The Gulf Side Sector Gate is the first of two sector gates and is scheduled to complete fabrication by the end of this year, with fabrication of the Inland Side Sector Gate set to begin immediately afterward. Each sector gate consists of two leaves, with each leaf framed by three truss assemblies standing 39'-6" tall and 61'-8" long. Once fully assembled, each gate will weigh approximately 633,000 pounds.

All steel is being processed in-house using Specks' Messer and Kinetic K5000XRM CNC cutting tables, HGG CNC pipe processor, and PythonX plasma cutter. The gates are designed and fabricated to meet stringent hydraulic-structure requirements, made possible by our AISC Advanced Bridge, Advanced Hydraulic, and Complex Coating certifications.

PROJECT UPDATE: Boggs Tainter Gate Fabrication continues to move forward as Specks recently completed the alignment and line boring of Tainter Gate Trunnion Hubs utilizing Leica Metrology and Mactech Line Boring equipment.

Using advanced precision technology, our team was able to concentrically align and bore trunnion hubs spaced more than 45’ apart while maintaining extremely tight job tolerances. Current bore dimensions measure 20” diameter x 24” long. This is another example of Specks’ commitment to precision and high-quality fabrication and machining solutions.

PROJECT UPDATE: Specks has been hard at work fabricating grillages for a major power distribution infrastructure project. Throughout this job, our team has utilized plate processors for 2” thick hub plates with drilled holes, along with the use of our PythonX Plasma Cutter for processing all wide fl**ge beams. Once complete, the grillages will be installed on top of helical piles also produced in-house by our Specks team, showcasing our team’s full-service fabrication capabilities from start to finish.

Grillage breakdown:
• Type 1 — 7.5’ square steel pile caps: 494 fabricated | 950 total tons
• Type 2 — 10’ square steel pile caps: 136 fabricated | 347 total tons
• Type 2P — 10’ square steel pile caps: 14 fabricated | 49 total tons
• Type 3 — 12’ diameter spoke steel pile caps: 28 fabricated | 109 total tons
