MAPCO Machine Shop Co-Owner, Roy "Check" Adams, racing highlights continued....
Check started his Late Model racing in 1967. In that year, his first win came on April 8th at Selinsgrove Speedway & Raceway Park. He had a total of 8 wins that season at the track. One of those victories was even on his wedding day as described in the newspaper article below.
The 1968 season-4 wins and a tie for first place at Selinsgrove.
The 1969 season- 11 wins at Selinsgrove (2nd Track Championship)
The 1970 season- 7 wins at Selinsgrove
The 1971 season- 3 wins at Selinsgrove
The 1972 season- 6 wins at Selinsgrove (3rd Track Championship)
The 1973 season- 1 win at Selinsgrove
The 1974 season- 2 wins at Selinsgrove
During these racing seasons, it was the battle of the Ford dealerships-Sunbury Motors and Selinsgrove Motors. Check's main sponsor was Sunbury Motors, where he worked full-time until his retirement in 2017. He competed weekly against the Selinsgrove Motors #63 Ford of Paul Long-RIP. They had some intense racing battles on the 1/2 mile oval.
Check also competed weekly against his older brother, Jim Adams, who also raced a Ford. Jim raced the #8 car and Check raced the #88 car. The Adams's were competitors on the track, but brothers off the track. They both raced at other local tracks like Williams Grove, Port Royal, and Susquehanna.
