🤔 Fun Fact Friday!

Ever wonder why a 2×4 piece of lumber doesn't actually measure 2 inches by 4 inches? 📏🪵

That's because 2×4 refers to the lumber's nominal size, not its finished dimensions!

A typical modern 2×4 starts out larger during manufacturing, but after drying and surfacing, its actual dimensions are approximately 1½ inches by 3½ inches.

It's one of those little quirks of the hardware world that can catch you by surprise if you're measuring for a project.

💡 DIY Tip of the Day

🔧 The right wrench makes all the difference!

When tightening or loosening a nut or bolt, always use a wrench that fits snugly around the fastener.

A wrench that's too large can slip, round off the corners of the nut or bolt, and make a simple job a whole lot more frustrating.

And if you're using an adjustable wrench, make sure the jaws are snug against the fastener before applying pressure.

A good fit means better grip, less frustration, and fewer stripped fasteners! 🛠️

📰 Throwback Thursday: Where It All Began!

We're taking it back 50 years to 1976, when the Sagehorn family moved to Sparta and purchased Kelly's Our Own Hardware!

Pictured here are the original seven members of the Sagehorn family: Craig and Elenore Sagehorn, along with their five children.

It's pretty special to look back at those early plans for the new store and see how far it has come over the past five decades. ❤️

50 years later, we're still proud to be part of the Sparta community. Thank you for being part of our story! 🛠️
