Representative Rick Larsen visited Janicki earlier this week, taking a tour of our newest facility to see our work firsthand. He also sat down with John Janicki for a discussion about growth across the aerospace and defense industries. We appreciate him making the trip out to Hamilton and spending time with our team!

Two brothers, Dustin and Joe Gomes grew up states apart, started a business together, and ended up on the same team at Janicki.

The brothers work on Janicki's Sedro-Woolley facilities crew. Dustin, Facilities Maintenance Tech Lead, handles upkeep and maintenance across Janicki's buildings. Joe, HVAC Technician II, focuses on monitoring, preventative maintenance and repair on ventilation fans, chillers, rooftop units and major HVAC systems.

"My favorite part of my job is getting to work with this guy," Dustin said.

Tomorrow is race day! Wishing our three Janicki teams the best of luck at Ski to Sea 🏁

Before they hit the course, each participant was sent off with a blue bucket hat and a 3D printed pin, designed to be lightweight and minimize impact for our runners. 🏃

If you spot them out on the course tomorrow, give them a wave and a shout. Have fun out there!

We're getting close to the big day! 🚣 2 days to Ski to Sea. Our final equipment feature: the surfski kayak.

This 20-foot racing kayak was built to validate a low-cost tooling approach capable of curing out-of-autoclave prepreg at higher temperatures than standard pattern tooling supports. Upper and lower hull halves were laid up in fiberglass prepreg over foam core and oven-cured, then joined and finished in Janicki's paint booth.

The materials used in the boat’s construction are the same used in the fabrication of cutting-edge unmanned sailboats, including fiberglass prepreg, foam core, marine-grade paint and a 3D printed rudder. Hull materials were repurposed from a marine production project.

Race day is Sunday! 🏔️ Learn more here:

4 days to Ski to Sea! Today's feature: the canoe 🛶

The first-generation boat was part of a research project exploring more environmentally friendly manufacturing, substituting urethane spray foam with bio-based materials like cardboard and wood fibers. Built from high-performance aerospace carbon fiber prepreg, it competed in three previous Ski to Sea races.

The second-generation canoe is the newest in the fleet. Hull plies were hand-laid over a foam core, with stiffeners and seat supports bonded in after cure. It served as the test vehicle for two new tooling products, an experimental low-cost medium-temperature pattern tool and a high-temperature bismaleimide carbon tool designed for extended cycle life. Lessons learned are feeding directly into the next generation of Janicki tooling products.

Next up - the surfski kayak! Check back in on Friday for more information.

Congratulations to Tye Reid on being named an Honorary Commander for the 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group at Hill Air Force Base! 🎖️

Tye, our Senior Director of Engineering and Operations in Layton, Utah, was inducted into the program earlier this year. The two-year program pairs civilian leaders with military commanders to build stronger ties between Hill AFB and the surrounding community.
