Welcome, November! 👋 This month, our Spicer Group calendar features the recently established Ives Drain in Mecosta County.

When erosion was threatening to destroy homes and infrastructure in Big Rapids, Spicer Group stepped in to conduct a study of the watercourse. The results of the study showed severe erosion and led to the establishment of the Ives Drain.

Spicer worked with two other firms on the creation of new infrastructure and utilization of previous infrastructure to ensure proper drainage to the Muskegon River. A channel was designed by the Spicer team, with team members also providing key services of surveying and engineering for construction support.

The outcome is a fully functioning drain completed in 2024, providing a stable disbursement of stormwater runoff. The project was recognized with a merit award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan in 2026.

In June, Spicer Group's ninth President/CEO took the reins. But Steve Roznowski, PE, was certainly not new to Spicer. In fact, he first came to the firm as a summer intern during college, and the workplace culture kept him coming back.

"People here work very hard, yet they’re personable," Roznowski said. "They work together as a team and you feel like you’re part of a team.”

💧After nearly six years of planning, surveying, engineering, environmental permitting, construction, and collaboration, Sanford Lake has returned to its normal summer court-ordered legal water level. This milestone marks a significant achievement for residents, local communities and stakeholders, engineers, contractors, and the Four Lakes Task Force as restoration efforts continue following the catastrophic Edenville Dam and Sanford Dam failures of May 2020.

🍂It's officially the first full month of fall! October is here, and so is the latest page in our Spicer Group calendar.

🛝The project photo for this month comes from a park project in Sebewaing, Michigan. Spicer Group partnered with the Village of Sebewaing to revitalize its most popular recreational space, Main Park, with a universally accessible playscape. The new structure, constructed with durable recycled materials, provides an environmentally sustainable facility for visitors of all abilities.

♿Spicer Group provided topographical surveying, design, bidding, and construction administration services for the project, which also included a new walking path to improve accessibility and connectivity.

✂A restoration project at Mecosta County's Buckhorn Creek recently wrapped up with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees crossed the newly installed 90-foot bridge, which is now part of the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail.

🐟Spicer Group was honored to provide engineering services as a dam was removed from the waterway, restoring the creek's natural function. The cold-water habitat of this creek is vital for fish species in the region, and they can now easily make their way to and from the Muskegon River.

⭐Thank you to the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly for allowing us to partner with you on the restoration of the creek!
