A fire begins, and seconds count,
Smoke builds quickly, flames spread out.
A call goes in, the crews respond,
Every minute, the conditions change.
Engines arrive, the lines are laid,
Water flows as plans are made.
Searching rooms, containing flame,
Working quickly to limit the damage.
From the first alarm until the fire is through,
Every second matters in what crews do

Trailer fires in the unincorporated East Antler area of Redmond present unique challenges for Redmond Fire & Rescue. These incidents often require multiple responding units, including fire engines, water tenders, and command staff, placing additional demands on resources and response coverage throughout the district. With limited access, water supply considerations, and the potential for fire spread, these calls highlight the importance of preparedness and having the resources needed to protect our community.

As burn season opens, Redmond Fire & Rescue is reminding our community to remain vigilant when burning yard debris. Even as temperatures cool and the season winds down, fires can escape their boundaries and quickly spread into surrounding vegetation, threatening homes, property, and our community.

Last week, Redmond Fire & Rescue responded to a wildfire that originated from a debris burn. This is an important reminder that a burn pile is never truly safe until it is completely extinguished

Today responded to a structure fire at approximately 0200 involving exploding propane tanks and a fully involved shop structure fire west of Redmond. Resources involved included all engines from each station, and multiple medic units operated by firefighters with water tenders from other departments. The shop was extinguished and no people were hurt or trapped in the structure. When we look at a response like this, we as a district have to evaluate resources available and what is necessary for certain calls. Redmond OR is growing fast, and as such the emergency response must keep up with the increase in housing and population not just for fires but for medical, vehicle crashes, and rescue incidents. How the fire department is funded is through local levy’s, property taxes, and other sources. So when a local option levy is on the ballot, consider the load on the fire district, and the necessity for its operational capability to keep up with the growing community we so love to serve CommunitySafety

Did you know that Redmond Fire And Rescue can reach patients in difficult areas for medical and rescue operations? A grant received through the Oregon State parks provided a capable rescue rig at no cost to the taxpayers for our ability to reach and treat patients in difficult situations

Train with purpose. Retain the knowledge. Be ready when it counts.

At Redmond Fire & Rescue, training is more than checking a box. It’s about building skills and confidence when lives are on the line.

Retention comes through repetition, hands-on practice, reviewing key concepts, and learning from one another. Every opportunity to train helps turn knowledge into action under pressure.

Train hard. Keep learning. Never stop improving.

One of the most rewarding parts of being firefighter paramedics is getting the opportunity to show kids what we do and why we do it.

Teaching the next generation about fire safety, EMS, and what it means to serve our community can make a lasting impact. We love seeing their curiosity, answering their questions, and reminding them that the people behind the uniform are here to help.

Today’s curious kid could be tomorrow’s firefighter, paramedic, or community leader. We’re proud to be part of that journey.

Training is where the work begins.

At Redmond Fire & Rescue, the fire doesn’t care how long you’ve been on the job. The call doesn’t care if you’re a recruit or a career firefighter. When the tones drop, our community expects us to be ready.

That readiness is built through training.

Our recent academy has been an opportunity for new firefighters to develop the fundamentals, build confidence, and learn how to operate as part of a crew. But training doesn’t stop when the academy ends. Career firefighters continue to train alongside them, sharpening skills, sharing experience, and challenging one another to become better firefighters.

From hose lines and forcible entry to search, ventilation, ladders, EMS, and crew coordination, every repetition matters. The goal isn’t simply to check a box—it’s to build muscle memory and the confidence to perform when the environment is anything but controlled.

Train hard. Train together. Build the skills before you need them.

Redmond Fire & Rescue and IAFF Local 3650 are committed to developing firefighters who are prepared to serve our community when it matters most.
