Communities don't need all the answers before they start planning. They need a process that helps them discover the right questions.

Recently, Senior Project Manager Karen Prescott participated in a community design charrette in Exeter, NH, convened by PlanNH (Plan NH) which brought together planners, designers, engineers, economic development professionals, community stakeholders, and local leaders to explore possibilities for the area surrounding the Exeter train station.

Through site walks, stakeholder conversations, public listening sessions, and collaborative working sessions, the team examined opportunities to strengthen connectivity, support economic development, improve mobility, and enhance the visitor experience. The charrette process provided a forum for bringing diverse perspectives together, helping the community identify priorities and move ideas toward actionable strategies.

At Weston & Sampson planning is about more than creating documents. It's about helping communities evaluate possibilities, align priorities, identify funding opportunities, and build a roadmap toward implementation.

🌧️ Across the East Coast, peak storm season can quickly reveal where stormwater systems, drainage networks, and flood-prone areas are most vulnerable.

But communities do not have to wait for the next major storm to understand where those risks exist.

Weston & Sampson has helped communities take a proactive approach to flood resilience through watershed drainage studies, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, public outreach, solution development, and grant opportunity identification.

For East Coast communities facing heavier rainfall, coastal impacts, aging infrastructure, and recurring flooding, strong stormwater planning starts before the storm.

Explore our stormwater solutions to see how planning, modeling, and resilient design can help turn flood risk into action.

A new bridge across Rwanda’s Kigongi River is helping connect more than 3,100 residents to schools, healthcare, markets, and transportation.

Last summer, Weston & Sampson volunteers partnered with Fika, formerly Bridges to Prosperity, and local community members to help construct the 50-meter pedestrian suspension bridge.

Our team supported construction, quality control, safety training, bridge maintenance, and knowledge sharing while working side by side with residents. The result is more than a new crossing. It is a reliable connection to essential services and greater opportunity throughout the region.

🌴 Building resilience in Lee County means more than preparing for the next storm. It means helping communities make informed decisions about the infrastructure and facilities they rely on every day.

Across Southwest Florida, local governments are balancing aging infrastructure, population growth, recovery investments, and increasing environmental risks. Understanding where vulnerabilities exist is an important first step toward protecting public assets, maintaining essential services, and prioritizing long-term capital investments.

In Lee County, Florida, Weston & Sampson is helping turn risk data into actionable plans.

🌊 For Lee County, our team is evaluating current and future coastal flood risks to infrastructure, residents, natural resources, and the local economy. Through coastal flood modeling, sea level rise analysis, tidal flooding assessments, and socioeconomic impact evaluations, we're helping identify and prioritize strategies that can reduce risk, strengthen infrastructure, and support future resilience investments.

🏫 For the School District of Lee County, we're assessing how climate and weather-related hazards may affect facilities across the district. By combining hazard exposure with evaluations of building conditions, drainage systems, roofing, HVAC infrastructure, site characteristics, and facility-manager input, we're helping inform mitigation strategies and long-range capital planning decisions.

While the assets may be different, the goal is the same: helping communities understand risk, prioritize investments, and protect the facilities and services that residents depend on.

As Lee County continues investing in resilient infrastructure and community assets, data-driven planning can help leaders make informed decisions that strengthen both day-to-day operations and long-term resilience.
