🌿 Project Kickoff | Transforming Hope Missionary Hospital, Uganda

A new chapter begins in Tororo, Eastern Uganda!

Journeyman International is partnering with Jungle Medical Missions Uganda (JMMU) to support the development of a College of Health Sciences alongside Transforming Hope Missionary Hospital.

The vision is to create welcoming, functional spaces where future healthcare professionals can learn, practice, and grow — from classrooms and simulation labs to a library and student accommodation.

With a long-term vision of growing into a university, this project is about more than buildings. It’s about investing in education, strengthening healthcare, and creating lasting opportunities for communities.

We’re excited to see this vision take shape, one step at a time. 💚

🌍 Rwanda Architecture Week & EAIA Congress 2026 | Kigali, Rwanda 🇷🇼

From October 5–9, 2026, architects, students, policymakers, educators, and industry professionals gathered in Kigali for Rwanda Architecture Week and the East Africa Institute of Architects (EAIA) Congress 2026.

Under the theme “The Role of Architecture in Sustainable Development: One Region, One Mission, a Shared Future,” the event created a platform for meaningful conversations on sustainable design, urban development, architectural education, and the future of East Africa’s built environment.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in insightful discussions, architectural exhibitions, student showcases, project visits, and networking opportunities, fostering knowledge exchange and stronger regional collaboration.

A significant milestone was Rwanda officially assuming the EAIA leadership from Tanzania for the coming year, marking a new chapter in advancing architectural cooperation across East Africa.

🌱 Building a more sustainable future through architecture, collaboration, and shared knowledge.

We’re excited to kick off our newest project in collaboration with Mayamiko Child Care Centre in Blantyre, Malawi!

Together, we aim to create a safe, nurturing, and child-centered environment for approximately 40–48 vulnerable children, providing spaces for care, learning, creativity, and play.

More than just a shelter, this project envisions a place where children can heal, grow, and build brighter futures. 🌱

Stay tuned as we bring this vision to life!

We’re excited to announce the Overall Winner of the EAIA Student Competition 2026! 🏆

Congratulations to Tiamo Onen Benjamin from Uganda, recipient of the EAIA President’s Award 2026, for his proposal Architecture of Memory: Context, Culture, and Care at Gisimba.

The proposal thoughtfully reimagines the Gisimba Memorial Center through an approach rooted in memory, community, and healing—transforming the site into a space for gathering, expression, and connection.

A huge congratulations to Tiamo on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s competition! 🌍✨

As part of the JI Global Design–Build Workshop: Growing Communities Through Bamboo, students from Warmadewa University and INES Musanze came together through a series of online knowledge-sharing sessions exploring bamboo, sustainable design, and community-focused architecture. 🌿🌍

It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives across Indonesia and Rwanda, while learning from practitioners and educators working with bamboo in different contexts.
