The new Fricker Resource Center Renovation is underway!
"The Frank A. Fricker Center is being renovated to breathe new life and resiliency into the nearly 70-year-old facility. These renovations are an investment to continue to meet the growing needs of the community now and for years to come. The project is funded by two grants providing $9.5 million for the renovation."
-City of Pensacola

As a reminder, the City of Pensacola Parks & Recreation Department is preparing for renovations to begin at the Fricker Resource Center.

➡️Senior Programming will move to Bayview Senior Center beginning May 18.
➡️Parks & Recreation’s After School Programming will end May 22. Summer campers will be accommodated at Woodland Heights.
➡️Fricker Resource Center closes May 23.
➡️Center staff will be relocated to other centers May 26.
➡️Interior demolition work will start after the staff are relocated.
➡️The Fricker Resource Center will reopen with services in June 2027.

With nearly $9.5 million in grant funding awarded in 2023 and some Local Option Sales Tax funds, the project will allow the Fricker Resource Center to deliver a broad mix of leisure and cultural programs, events, and services that support health, fitness, relaxation, and learning.

Additionally, the renovated center will include the following:

➡️A career lab
➡️A senior center
➡️STEM Lab for students
➡️Health and wellness access
➡️Increased weather resiliency, including expanded stormwater treatment
➡️Increased parking
➡️ADA-compliant playground updates
➡️A multipurpose field/green space
➡️Renovations to restrooms, entryways, the kitchen, social hall, library and more

The Fricker Resource Center project is part of the city’s Direction ’25 program, a nearly $22 million effort to invest in and revitalize parks and public recreation spaces across the city.

⭐Help us welcome our next Auburn University Summer Intern, Kade!
Kade is graduating the Spring 2028 with his BS in Civil Engineering.
Kade says, "I chose Structural Engineering because of my passion for designing and the challenge of the building process. There is satisfaction in building something safe and sturdy for public use."
This summer he is looking forward to going out to the job site and inspecting the project in person. Hope you have a great summer here at JDA!

We are excited to welcome Brody Stringer to JDA for his summer internship! Brody comes to us from Auburn University and will be graduating next Spring with his BS in Civil Engineering.

I asked Brody why he chose Structural Engineering and he said, "I have always enjoyed carpentry and just building things in general. Structural engineering allows me to be able to design structures that are larger than I ever thought I would be able to do. This field also allows me to do something I love for a living."

This summer, Brody is looking forward to learning the inner workings of design and inspection that leads to the completion of a structure. Apparently, he is also very much looking forward to fishing here in the Florida Panhandle waterways! And we don't blame him! 🎣

We look forward to being part of your journey this summer and hope you gain some valuable experience along the way!

What an honor!! The whole city of Pensacola is celebrating American Idol Finalist and Pensacola native, Keyla Richardson! Last night she came home to perform for a huge crowd beneath the beautiful (and might I add incredibly designed...) Hunter Amphitheatre! A JDA structure that will be shining bright on television screens across the country! Congratulations Keyla, our city is so proud of you!
