"Give me a price."
That's how most of these conversations start. What people don't expect is what happens after.
We rarely say no because we don't want a project. We say no because we can't do it, or because it's not something we manufacture. Those are different answers, and they lead to different next steps.
Sometimes a prospect hangs up thinking they got turned down. Two days later, they call back. "Yeah, you're right."
That conversation, the real one about scope and timeline, has to happen before a number ever gets attached to anything. Before production starts. Not after.
We'll tell a client "we need this in 60" isn't realistic before we ever say yes to it. Not because we're difficult. Because the fastest way to lose a client's trust is a timeline nobody could actually hit.
The win was never speed. It's knowing exactly what you're getting, and when.
