For Medley Equipment Company, service has always meant more than equipment, parts and repairs. Two recent acts of generosity by Medley employees show what can happen when that commitment to service extends beyond the workplace and into the communities the company serves.
In Arkansas, Jason Forrest, a technician at Medley’s Springdale branch, encountered a couple stranded along Interstate 49 after their truck experienced a mechanical problem while they were traveling to a medical appointment. The couple, Larry and Linda, had been waiting on a tow and faced the possibility of missing the appointment. After learning what was happening, Forrest stepped in.
He drove the couple to the clinic so they could make the appointment. Forrest then purchased the needed parts, repaired the truck on the side of the highway, and arranged for it to be transported to the clinic so the couple would have transportation home.
In Albuquerque, New Mexico Thomas and his team reached out to customers following severe weather and flooding. After learning a customer's mother had suffered significant flood damage, Branch Manager Thomas Maddox and the ABQ team stepped up and offered support. Thomas gave the family a washer and dryer from his own home while Salesman Robert Miera took a load of groceries to the family to help them get by. While they continued to pick up the pieces of their lives, Robert and Thomas saw a way to take one burden off of their plate.
Though the circumstances were different, the stories share something important: Neither employee was asked to help... They simply saw someone who needed it and acted.
For Medley, those moments represent a form of service that cannot be measured by a work order or customer transaction. They demonstrate how individual decisions to show compassion can strengthen the communities where employees live and work.
