Our team spent time hand building guitars for veterans, and the Tungco team has never sounded better. Royce Wilson and Vickie Murphy share about what it’s like to be around the team working together for others. Steve testing the guitars. Our own veteran, Dewayne Austin, right in the middle of it — with his daughter Cora Dillingham dancing (as always!). The greatest part about Tungco is how much heart goes into everything, whether in service of tungsten or our veterans who have served our country.

Maintenance Technician (Mechanical & Controls)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician with hands-on experience in industrial
equipment repair and a foundational background in electrical controls and automation. This role
is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving production and facility equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical
aptitude, understands basic PLC and controls systems, and can work independently in a fastpaced manufacturing and industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Maintenance:
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment, conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and complete repairs in a timely manner.
• Replace bearings, belts, chains, seals, valves, and other machine components.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and schematics.
• Conduct inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.

Electrical & Controls Support:
• Assist with troubleshooting electrical and control system issues on industrial machinery.
• Work with sensors, relays, contactors, VFDs, motor starters, and control panels.
• Perform basic PLC troubleshooting and diagnostics (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar preferred).
• Support equipment startups, calibration, and adjustments.
• Assist in maintaining and updating electrical documentation and control schematics.

General Responsibilities:
• Follow all company safety procedures and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
• Document maintenance activities and completed repairs in CMMS or maintenance logs.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and production teams to minimize downtime.
• Identify opportunities for equipment reliability improvements.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and controls.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.

Preferred:
• Technical degree or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical
Technology, or related field.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and automation systems.
• Experience with VFDs, HMIs, and industrial networking.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• Knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance practices.

Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor

Position Overview:
We are seeking a high-caliber Maintenance Supervisor to lead our facility's maintenance operations. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background in heavy industrial machinery, combined with solid, hands-on industrial electrical troubleshooting skills. You will be responsible for keeping our production floor running smoothly, managing a small crew of technicians, and driving project implementation to fruition.

Key Responsibilities:
• Hands-On Mechanical Maintenance: Act as a technical resource for heavy mechanical equipment repairs. Diagnose, overhaul, and repair hydraulic systems, high-torque gearboxes, pneumatic lines, pumps, conveyors, and high-temperature furnace components.
• Team Leadership & Management: Lead, schedule, and assign daily work orders to a small team of multi-craft technicians. Enforce strict safety protocols, including OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and job hazard assessments. Alongside the Director of Operations, manage third-party contractors during major equipment overhauls.
• Electrical Troubleshooting & Controls: Systems-level electrical troubleshooting. Diagnose issues within 480V 3-phase power systems, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, and automated machine control panels. Must be comfortable reading schematics
to isolate electrical vs. mechanical faults.
• Data Analysis and Capital Equipment End of Life Evaluation: Using our digital maintenance tracking system, review and analyze the data on equipment and workorders. Alongside the Director of Operations, use this data to identify future capex needs and requirements.

Required Qualifications & Mindset:
• The Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial processing, foundry, or milling environments.
• The Technical Balance: A strong mechanical baseline (hydraulics, welding/fabrication, rigging, power transmission) coupled with confident, hands-on industrial electrical experience.
• The Leadership: Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory, crew lead, or shift foreman role. You must know how to earn the respect of a seasoned maintenance crew by being willing to get your hands dirty when a critical machine goes down.

Why This Role is Different.....

We don’t want a manager who sits behind a desk analyzing spreadsheets all day, nor do we want a technician who only looks at their own assigned tasks. We need a partner on the floor who can lead our team by example, troubleshoot a complex mechanical failure under pressure, and strategically plan out the next week's maintenance to eliminate unplanned downtime alongside the guidance of the Director of Operations.

That's the whole story behind the name.

Atomic number 74. Symbol W. The hardest working element most people have never thought about — in the tools that cut steel, the coatings that protect jet engines, and the components inside equipment that has to survive conditions nothing else can.

Every year, oil and gas operations across the Houston corridor retire an enormous volume of tungsten carbide tooling — drill bits, wear parts, downhole components. Most of it contains more recoverable tungsten than people realize.

That material doesn't have to leave the country to be recovered. Tungco has been reclaiming tungsten from industrial scrap since 1969, converting end-of-life tooling back into the chemical feedstock that downstream manufacturers depend on.

The tungsten already circulating in American industry is a resource. Treating it that way is the difference between a supply chain that depends on imports and one that doesn't.

If you're managing tooling spend or scrap disposal for an operation in the Houston area, that scrap has value worth quoting.

In 2005, Tungco's first trade show booth had three people, no game plan, a borrowed w**e glass full of tungsten pellets, and Pro-V golf balls as the prize.

Steve Nance — Tungco's founder — fished one business card out of that bucket. Called the woman who wrote it a few weeks later. Married her in September.
