Quick Tip Tuesday: The Tonneau Cover Mistake That’s Ruining Your Gear 🌧️
If you just bought a tonneau cover to keep your cargo dry, do not assume your truck bed is 100% waterproof yet.
Even the highest-end hard folding or rolling covers have a secret enemy: the tailgate gap. Look closely at your closed tailgate from the inside, and you’ll see massive daylight gaps on the sides and bottom. When you drive down the highway in the rain, your tires create a high-pressure mist that gets sucked right through those gaps, soaking everything in your bed.
🛑 How to actually bone-dry your bed:
• Seal the tailgate: You need a rubber tailgate seal kit. It’s an inexpensive, automotive-grade weatherstripping that seals those factory air gaps.
• Clear the drain tubes: If you have a flush-mount cover, make sure your canister or rail drain tubes aren’t kinked and actually exit outside the bed.
• Check the bulkhead: Ensure the foam seal at the front wall of your bed is compressed tightly during installation.
The Fix: Don’t wait for a ruined camping trip or soggy tools to find out your bed leaks. Comment ‘SEAL’, swing by the shop, or DM us today, and we’ll grab you a heavy-duty tailgate seal kit to lock out the weather for good!
