KPM Franklin celebrated its annual National Paper Airplane Day flight competition yesterday. Our engineers, surveyors, planners and landscape architects in Orlando and Kissimmee put their design and folding skills to the test before competing to see whose paper airplane could fly the farthest.

Congratulations to the winners this year, Juan Gomez, engineering intern, in Kissimmee, and Phil Hollimon, project manager, in Orlando.

KPM Franklin is providing civil engineering design and land surveying services as a member of a team selected by the City of Kissimmee to redevelop the former Kmart property at 2211 W. Vine Street in Kissimmee, Fla. Vine Street Redevelopment, LLC led by CapStrata Commercial and Hedrick Brothers Construction will develop Edon Park on the 22-acre site. The mixed-use development will include 51,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, 630 new residential units and a 73,400-square-foot indoor sports facility.

Yesterday, engineers from our Orlando and Kissimmee offices attended the ASCE East Central Branch Icebreaker event that took place in the DinoDigs and Our Planet exhibit halls at the Orlando Science Center. In addition to providing opportunities to network with more than 350 engineers from the Central Florida area, the event also was a fundraiser for ASCE’s ECB student and education outreach programs. KPM contributed as an appetizer sponsor.

On Saturday, KPM Franklin staff from our Orlando and Kissimmee offices attended the Orlando City Soccer Club Lion’s match against the Atlanta United FC Five Stripes at Inter&Co Stadium. Although the game was a 1-1 draw, we had a great time socializing and enjoying the action from the West Club. Go Lions!

Yesterday, KPM Franklin’s Felipe Bestetti Gottschall, engineering intern, Mitchel Hill, P.S.M. Hill, associate director geospatial & land surveying, Robby Moon, CEO, Dustin Finch, CAPM Finch, construction administration manager, and Alex Easton, engineering intern, attended the groundbreaking ceremony at Dream Lofts, Full Sail University’s future student housing community in Winter Park, Fla.

KPM Franklin is providing civil engineering design and geospatial & land surveying services for this three-phase development that will provide housing for 1,800 students. Phase one of construction includes a five-story building, courtyard, fitness amenities, pool and outdoor spaces scheduled to open in 2028.

KPM Franklin is providing due diligence analysis, high-level concept planning, preliminary engineering plans and site plan permitting assistance services to the City of Kissimmee for the redevelopment of the Kissimmee Civic Center. The civic center will be replaced by a modern convention center and 10-story luxury hotel to promote tourism, business and community events in the city.
Demolition of the existing Civic Center will likely begin during the middle of 2026. Stay tuned for more project updates.

KPM Franklin’s civil engineers recently ran into a unique project challenge at a food truck park in Orlando where a stormwater storage system was needed to manage stormwater runoff and prevent flooding and soil erosion during heavy rainfall. However, the project site wasn’t big enough for a surface pond.

Our civil engineers solved the problem by designing an underground exfiltration chamber system that temporarily stores thousands of gallons of stormwater and controls the flow rate as it is diverted offsite.

KPM Franklin is seeking civil engineering candidates who are problem solvers, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
