Florida Atlantic University hosted the ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฆ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐๐บ in Boca Raton on March 12-14. It was a beautiful weekend for civil engineering students from 19 universities in Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico to gather and compete in a variety of engineering competitions.
๐๐ฝ๐ฒ๐
was pleased to once again support this event as a gold sponsor and provide judges for the A partnership between the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Wood Council, APA โ The Engineered Wood Association, and Simpson Strong-Tie, this competition challenges student teams to design and build an artistically creative two-story wood light-framed building that is sustainable, aesthetically pleasing, and structurally durable. Teams are scored on their calculations, BIM, and construction documents, as well as their Build Day performances.
The team from the ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ-๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ด๐๐ฒ๐ were the overall winners of this yearโs Timber-Strong competition. Their design decisions were influenced by the challenge of transporting their construction materials via cargo boat. The judges reported that, in addition to a beautiful mural that wrapped around the entire structure, it was their unique construction that made their build stand out from the competition.
The ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต team took second place, and the third-place team from ๐๐น๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ made ASCE history as the first All-Women build team to compete in the Timber-Strong competition. Congratulations to these teams and to all who participated in this yearโs event!
