One piece of advice for anyone building in California: bring the manufacturer in early.

The topic: Everything dealing with modular construction.

Sean Khan has spent 27 years in the modular industry, starting as an electrician on the factory floor and working his way up before founding NextMod in 2012. He went straight from high school into blue collar work to support his family. Two years ago, he joined Twining as an inspector. This year, he went back to college.

Meet Ubaed, an inspector on our team, a first-generation American, and a current SCCA scholarship recipient. We sponsored one year of his associate’s degree path, and he’s making every class count. He’s holding a 4.0 GPA while working full-time in the field.

In his words, he’s “deeply grateful” for the support and for “the hope towards a path forward.” We’re the grateful ones. Ubaed’s dedication to his work and to our clients shows up every day, and we can’t wait to watch where this goes.

His plan: finish his Associate’s in Civil Engineering in Fall 2027, transfer to Cal Poly Pomona, and complete his bachelor’s by Fall 2029. His goal is to join our engineering team.

This Careers in Construction Month, his story is a reminder that AEC careers don’t have one starting line. Some begin in a classroom. Some begin in the field. The best ones keep growing.

Every building you walk into started with someone doing their job.

Not just the crews with hard hats on site. The engineer who ran the numbers on the soil. The inspector who checked the work before anyone saw it. The lab technician who tested the concrete so it would hold. The project manager who kept it all moving.

That’s the part of construction people rarely see, and it’s the part that decides whether a structure stands for 50 years or 150.

Twas a hot but fun day at our annual picnic! Our employees are scattered throughout the state and beyond, out on job sites and in the labs, but it's always great to see our employees come together after working hours and enjoy each other's company with their families. The kids and adults enjoyed face painting, games, raffle prizes, and great food.

We had a great turnout hosting Swinerton Builders at our lab! 🔬

Our team guided their project engineers through our quality control process and the testing we run every day, from exterior envelope to forensic investigation. They got hands-on experience, practical tips, and a closer look at what goes into every test.
