Project Update - September 9, 2026
Blue Earth Avenue Improvement Project

Concrete & Grading Work
Concrete crews completed sidewalk work within the Prairie Avenue intersection while grading crews completed topsoil grading along Blue Earth Avenue between Prairie Avenue and TH 15.

This week, work will continue within the Prairie Avenue intersection. Crews are scheduled to:
• Connect power through the new conduits for street lighting.
• Temporarily reinstall existing street lighting until the new light poles arrive.
• Install traffic signs along Prairie Avenue between Prairie Avenue and TH 15.
• Complete pavement striping within the roundabout.
• Install sod, with work taking place today.

Traffic Control & Intersection Closures
🚧 Prairie Avenue is scheduled to reopen to northbound and southbound traffic Friday evening.

🚧The Park Street intersection is scheduled to close Monday morning at approximately 7 a.m. The closure will begin after the traffic control contractor installs the required traffic control.

🚧The north side of the Elm Street intersection will also close. The south side of the intersection will remain open to provide local business access.

Motorists should plan for changes in traffic patterns and allow additional time when traveling through the project area.

💧Watermain Shutdown
A watermain shutdown is anticipated next week in the Park Street intersection area. Additional information will be provided once the contractor confirms the shutdown date and time.

The City of Fairmont invites community members to hear from Bowen National Research on their findings of the recently completed housing study.

The findings will be presented on Monday, September 14, 2026 at two times and locations.

🕰️ 11:00 a.m.- Noon
Southern Minnesota Educational Campus - Room 012
115 S. Park Street, Fairmont

🕰️ 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Fairmont City Hall - Council Chambers
100 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont

The public is welcome to attend either presentation. The 4:30 p.m. presentation will be broadcast on Local Government Channel 13 and will be available for viewing on the City of Fairmont website.

Fairmont Water Ranks #4 at the MN State Fair 🎖️💧

We might be biased, but State Fairgoes agree - Fairmont's got some pretty great water!!! Fairmont earned the #4 spot in the Minnesota State Fair's Annual Tap Water Tasting Contest.

Fairmont was one of 22 Minnesota communities that donated water for the crowd-voted competition hosted by American Water Works Association (AAWA). Fairgoers sampled anoynmous entries before voting for their favorite "BEST IN GLASS" 💧

A HUGE shoutout to the Fairmont Public Utilities Water Department who ensures safe, great tasting drinking water everyday. Thank you State Fairgoers for voting us #4!!!

Congratulations to City of New Brighton on being 2026's #1 pick!!!! Thank you to all of the Minnesota cities that participated - See you all in 2027!
