For 160 years, Kurtz Hardware has been more than a business, it has been a living piece of Des Moines history.
We are honored to be featured by We Are Iowa Local 5 News in a recent interview highlighting how Des Moines' oldest family operating business continues to build on its legacy.
From our beginnings in 1866 as a small tinsmith and hardware store serving growing frontier city, to becoming a trusted partner in architectural doors, frames, and commercial hardware, the Kurtz name has always stood for craftsmanship, reliability, and relationships that last generations.
Today, under the leadership of Robert Kurtz, 5ht generation Kurtz family, we continue to evolve, supporting projects across healthcare, education, commercial construction, government facilities, and beyond. Our expertise spans everything from hollow metal and wood doors to advanced electronic security and life-safety hardware solutions designed for modern buildings.
What hasn't changed?
-> Our commitment to quality
-> Our dedication to our partners
-> Our belief in "Working in Good Faith Since 1866"
As highlighted in the Local 5 interview, our mission is simple: honor our past while building for the future. Whether it's supplying a multi-phase commercial project or helping a contractor find the right opening solution, we are proud to be a dependable resource across the Midwest.
