Just before leaving for the Eastern Regional Apprenticeship Conference, I received a flyer for a benefit this past weekend in honor of our long-time union brother, Brian Kantner, who has been battling cancer. I then learned that only two days after that flyer was shared, Brian was admitted to hospice and is now losing his fight.
I have been in contact with his wife, Cori, who has been keeping me updated on Brian’s condition. She is a loving wife and the mother of five beautiful children, and right now she is facing something no family should have to endure. Cori is scared, as her provider, her rock, and her strength is slipping away.
Hearing her fear is heartbreaking. As a God-fearing man, I find comfort in the Lord’s word, that we are not to worry about tomorrow, for today has enough troubles of its own, and that the Lord is always with us, guiding us and holding us up. He will never give us more than we can bear.
I’m asking that if you are willing and able to help, even just a little, it would mean more than you know. I truly believe that even small acts of generosity can become something far greater, just as we are reminded in Matthew 14:18–21, when the five loaves and two fish were multiplied to feed thousands. A little, given with faith and compassion, can be more than enough.
Please keep Brian, Cori, and their children in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

As you all know, mental health is something very close to my heart and incredibly important to me.

I want to take a moment to recognize this man and the journey he is taking on. It takes real courage to stand up and advocate for those who are struggling, and that kind of strength deserves our respect and support.

My heart and prayers go out to him. I pray that the good Lord guides him, protects him, and gives him the strength he needs every step of the way.

God bless him on this journey.

This is a blow to all of us here at SMART Local #24. Many of us can look back and remember the good times and the hard-earned money made out there.

Shutdowns were always my favorite—long hours, tough work, and good pay. Welding through the hottest days of summer and the coldest days of winter is something only we truly understand. And when you’re standing on top of those concrete silos, it really does feel like you’re on top of the world.

I will truly miss this facility and the memories we built there.

Stay safe, brothers and sisters.

A food manufacturing company will close a Miami Valley facility next year.

This isn't AI, I promise you. This is on the back stops at Miami University, on the softball field. We work hard to brand who we are. This is a snap shot of a game on ESPN.
