While attempting to reach forge welding temperatures in my new forge I accidentally set a refractory brick on fire (first picture). No, that isn't light shining down upon the stone, it's actually emitting that glow from within.

Also this calls into question everything Sir Bedivere The Wise, from Monty Python and The Holy Grail, taught me.

Sir Bedivere, "Why do witches burn?"

Peasent (John Cleese), "...b..because they're made of wood?"

"Gooooood, so how can we tell that she is made of wood?"

"Build a bridge out of 'er!?"

"AH, but can you also not make bridges out of stone??"

SIR BEDIVERE I'M OUT HERE BURNING STONES!! Now I'm starting to question wether or not the Earth really is banana shaped....

Young Mr. Daniel, Emily Miller 's son, forging his own knife at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Tourism Art & Wine Festival last weeked hosted by Appalachian Root Works - Rooted In Runes.

In old school smithing a young apprentice would often be the muscle while the shop master was the brains. Here Mr. Daniel is swinging a 4lb sledge which is contacting the back of a 'set hammer' used to focus the force of the strikes, into a target area of the piece being worked, guided by the master. Together they were able to hammer him out a railroad spike knife in about 20 minutes that he took home.

If ever you see us vending and would like to forge your own knife with the shop masters guidance, just A.S.K. and we would love to teach you!
