As we continue our recognition of National Water Quality Month, we feature our Ecological Resources Department, which specializes in natural resource and ecological studies that support NEPA reviews and regulatory approvals. Recently, our team completed a vegetative survey to document plant diversity at a large wetland mitigation site in Northeast Ohio. These wetlands play an important role in improving water quality, managing stormwater, and supporting healthy ecosystems. From field studies and ecological assessments to permitting and regulatory coordination, we understand the permitting process and can provide the documentation needed to keep your project moving forward. Thank you for all of your hard and meaningful work this field season, Eco team!

Rain seems to be a “heavy” topic this week! As we continue celebrating National Water Quality Month, we are highlighting STONE’s Engineering Department. Our seasoned Civil Engineers have decades of experience in flood control, stormwater conveyance, stormwater best management practices, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans SWP3s – including water quality and water quantity BMPs – and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plans. In one recent example, STONE designed drainage upgrades and a rain garden at an ODNR State Park, helping manage stormwater while supporting water quality. Have a stormwater or drainage project on the horizon? We’d love to help!

Happy National Intern Day!

Today we're recognizing the important role interns play in shaping the future workforce. We're especially grateful for our Engineering Intern, Najat Rasul, who joins us from The Ohio State University, where she's studying Civil Engineering with a minor in Humanitarian Engineering.

From engineering design and ecology to environmental services, Najat has made an impact across a variety of projects—including designing signage for an ODOT animal-vehicle collision deterrent initiative. Thank you for all your hard work, Najat! We're glad to have you on the STONE team.

Congratulations to Alex Brown on earning his Master Rain Gardener certification from the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District! The five-week program equips participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience to design, install, and maintain rain gardens that support sustainable stormwater management and improve water quality. Participants improve their own landscapes while also serving as stormwater ambassadors in their communities. Way to lead by doing, Alex!

Thank you to our partners at ODOT District 11 and G*I for coming together and hosting a successful Public Open House to seek comments for the I-77 / U.S. Route 250 / State Route 39 Alternatives Evaluation! G*I produced outstanding design exhibits and traffic simulations to help communicate project alternatives, while STONE supported the team by coordinating public involvement activities and developing materials for the event. PTO as an Environmental Scientist is best spent volunteering for science! In May, Olive Stringer spent her vacation in Robinson Forest, Kentucky with her friends at the McNeil Lab (UKY) recovering archival GPS tags from Whip-poor-wills. The tags are used to study migration and habitat use by the declining species. See the article link below to read more! bit.ly/4v2W4ju
