Gough as a subsidiary of Gough & Co (Hanley) Ltd., an engineering and manufacturing company in England. The UK company, owned by Mr. Gough, was emerging as a leader in the design and manufacture of material process and handling equipment. Gough personally developed and patented many of the innovative features that are still essential components in the company’s current product line. Initially Gough Econ served as a sales and marketing entity to introduce Gough’s leading-edge products to the USA market. Then in 1978, Gough Econ began manufacturing operations in a small facility in Belmont, NC and a few years later moved to its current location in Charlotte. In March 2004, the company was purchased from its UK parent by two long-time employees, David Risley and Don Calvert. Under their guidance and with the help of dedicated employees, Gough Econ has grown to become a world leader in the design and manufacture of integrated material handling systems.
