Help keep Alaska’s saltwater fisheries healthy and sustainable. Bring your fish back to port and allow our port samplers to collect data.

McKenna Varela is the ADF&G Sport Fish port sampler stationed in Whittier for the Summer of 2021. McKenna has been working with the Department on and off since 2018 and got her start in the Sport Fish Information Center in Anchorage. McKenna was born and raised in Alaska and just finished her first year studying Environmental Science at Western Washington University. She plans to become a Fisheries Biologist. McKenna’s favorite part of port sampling is working with her favorite Alaskan rockfish, the Quillback.

Data collection only takes a few minutes and what we learn from you and the fish you keep aids in fisheries research and management. No matter what port you return to, if there is a port sampler collecting data, please bring them your fish.
