Nature based solutions in the oil and gas ⛽️

Vetiver TT proudly maintaining our installation for BP to stabilize and protect their critical right of way infrastructure.

After much analysis their engineers deemed the Vetiver system to be just as reliable and more cost effective than gabion baskets or retaining walls, approving its full scale implementation.

On this site we used a combination of the VS and gabions to reduce overall project cost while maximizing protection, in the end they got a solution that saves money , infrastructure and meeting carbon emission goals.

What do nature based solutions mean to you ?

It’s how we use the living world in a way sustainable to both humanity and nature to solve engineering and environmental problem.

It’s like using vetiver grass to stabilize a hill and prevent landslides, or creating contour drains to help with drainage or laying coconut matting to slow erosion.

Lemon grass lore !

From Mr Francisco of the dominica forestry division 🌳

The lemon grass came in in the colonial times and was used as a fodder for livestock , however it began to spread uncontrollable. This problem was exacerbated by its uncanny ability to be a fuel source for wild fires, directly affecting the people of Tarreau .

Quick overview of the solution for Tarreau dominica.

Contour and step down drains for water management and allowing infiltration of excess water into soil.

Berms at the front of the drain give it extra depth and hold water longer.

The coconut matting prevents berm erosion.

Vetiver hedgerows behind every contour drains stabilizes the hillside , acts as a sediment trap and slows water velocity. Effectively reducing erosion.

Food forest for biodiversity and feeding the people is being put into to replace lemongrass.

A firebreak around the entire area is being put in using a variety of succulent and cacti species, some of which are edible.

Finally there’s a rain water catchment system being installed to provide water for the dry season, gravity fed.

The Vetiver stabilizes the slope, traps sediment and reduces erosion by dissipating water velocity.

Compared to lemongrass , Vetiver leaves contain more
moisture, making it fire resistant.

We’re on the ground in Dominica for the Tarreau Hillside Rehabilitation Project! 🇩🇲🌱

This vital seven-month intervention is focused on stabilizing 7.7 acres of degraded hillside, removing invasive citronella grass, and planting vetiver grass and a variety of agroforestry trees like mango and tamarind. We’re using natural bio-solutions to combat erosion and restore the ecosystem in the Tarreau community. Stay tuned for more progress!

Everyone’s talking about world domination, but we’re all about world stabilization with Vetiver system 2026.

We’re grateful for our team and for you, our supporters, who make our Nature Based Solutions work possible.

In 2025, we leveled up with new equipment, streamlined operations, and expanded our services, bringing in fresh talent. This led to our most successful year in commercial business and vetiver projects across the islands. We also became certified experts in phytoremediation and carbon quantification.

EARLY WARNING ‼️

In Roxborough, Tobago, UWI installed a new weather early-warning system — and protecting it meant leaning on nature.

Vetiver TT stabilized the upstream and downstream banks with 800 vetiver plants and 200 m² of coconut matting, creating a living barrier that reduces erosion and safeguards the system.

As part of the project, we also hosted a workshop with TEMA and UWI personnel, building awareness on nature-based solutions and how they can be applied across Tobago’s vulnerable landscapes.
