Another strengthening project nearing completion.

The Christmas break always brings time-critical programmes, with work needing to be finished before school doors reopen. Over the past two months, our team has delivered a demanding schedule on the Brook Block at Wellington Girls’ College.

Crown Infrastructure have shared a great overview of the project and the work involved.

Upgrading and strengthening education facilities is important work. It protects existing assets and ensures they’re ready for the next generation.

Proud of the effort our team put in to get this across the line.

Strengthening Wellington’s key assets — Ahead of Schedule.

Here are a few shots of the Petone Engineering team hard at work strengthening the Old Children’s Hospital in Wellington for Hawkins.

Our crew has powered through Phase 1 — finishing four weeks ahead of schedule, a fantastic achievement that reflects the commitment and coordination of our project management and site teams.

This project is a great example of our team living up to our number one brand promise:

“Proactively managed projects completed on time and to spec.”

Well done to everyone involved — a real team effort delivering great results on a key health facility project.

Completed Project: Summerset Waikanae Retirement Village

We’re proud to share the successful completion of the Summerset Waikanae Retirement Village project.

Despite a typically wet and windy Wellington winter, our team managed to deliver this project on time, if not slightly ahead of schedule.

This project comprised over 800 assemblies, with a total weight exceeding 140 tons, and included protective coatings across more than 3,000 m² of steel.

A big thank you to the entire team for their hard work and dedication, and to Summerset Group for the opportunity to contribute to a quality development on the Kapiti Coast.

It’s not often you’ll see all of our site management team together in one place — usually they’re scattered across projects from one end of the region to the other, keeping jobs moving and crews supported.

But every week, we come together for our Site Leadership Meeting — a chance to pause, share lessons, tackle challenges, and keep developing as leaders.

At Petone Engineering, we know that strong teams don’t just happen on site — they’re built through open discussion, learning from experience, and backing each other to get better every week.

Proud of this crew and the work they do every day to keep standards high and projects on track.

Agility is key to delivering seismic strengthening projects.

This Sunday, our team completed a major high-lift operation to install a K Frame at the Wellington District Court — part of the seismic strengthening project we’ve been delivering since 2024 and will continue through into 2026.

Because the Court must remain operational, the work takes place during weekends and nights to avoid disruption — no easy feat when you’re handling heavy steel and precision lifts in a live environment.

A special mention to our supervisor Jefferson and his crew for their exceptional work ethic and consistency. They continue to rise to every challenge.

We’re proud of our people and the quality of the work they produce.
At Petone Engineering, we stand by our belief that it takes great people to make a company great.

Weekly Project Review — PSA House
We’ve recently completed the PSA House project with Maycroft Construction , a great example of what can be achieved when two companies collaborate positively toward a common goal.
Over 150 Ton of structural steel.
More than 2,000 individual assemblies fabricated and erected.
Other than the basement steel, every assembly was winched up the outside of the building and brought in through a temporary gantry rail system — a complex process executed safely and efficiently by our team.
Seismic strengthening is something we’ve specialized in for over a decade, and our team are experts at ensuring every project is delivered successfully.
We’re proud of what the Petone Engineering team accomplished here — and proud to see our work strengthening another iconic Wellington building.

Some fantastic work is underway by our Petone Engineering team at Turnbull House in Wellington — a building that has stood for over 100 years.

Working on heritage structures like this is always special. It’s a privilege to get up close and see how things were designed and built a century ago. Clearly, they knew a thing or two about construction — this building has stood the test of time.

Our role is to manufacture and install the steel structures that will ensure it continues to do so for the next 100 years. With the seismic upgrade now in progress, Turnbull House will remain a strong and safe part of Wellington’s history.

Proud of the skill and care our team brings to projects like this.

Sometimes in this line of work, you get so caught up in the day-to-day that your onto the next project without taking time to admire the finished result.

These are a few photos from the new Naenae Pool, which we worked on last year with Apollo Projects. Petone Engineering handled the structural steel, and seeing it now — finished and in use reminds you of how much work goes into some of these projects.

We’re just one part of the process, but over time, you start to spot more and more jobs around the region that your team has helped build. And that's cool to see. Unfortunately with Earthquake Strengthening alot of the time its hidden.

But now and then you get one that uses the steelwork as a feature. Naenae Pool is one of those projects, and that's really cool for the team to see.

Threading the Needle

Sometimes engineering feels more like surgery.

In this case, we needed to run threaded rods through a concrete beam — but space was tight. The reinforcing steel was packed in, and drilling a clean path without hitting anything solid was next to impossible.

The smarter route: open up the beam, install the rods, and now it's just a matter of pouring some new concrete to close it out.

It’s not always the common solution that's best, this is where experience makes the difference. Sometimes, the unconventional approach is the best one.

Take a look behind the hoarding's.

We’ve been installing structural steel for a new Hospitality build in the Wellington Airport. The majority of the work has taken place after hours. Working around airport operations means night shifts, careful planning, and a great crew that knows how to get stuck in and make it happen.

Big thanks to the team on site and in the workshop—everyone’s played a part in pulling this together. Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Precision at Its Best!
Our QA team recently completed a final inspection on a large lift shaft using cutting-edge model overlay technology.

Using the HoloLens and Fabstation software, we’re able to achieve precision within 1.5mm — all in just minutes! What would traditionally take over an hour (with less accuracy) is now completed with unmatched efficiency and accuracy.

This is the future of structural engineering — faster, smarter, and more precise than ever.
Check out the video to see our QA process in action!
Apologies for the poor videography, its not my strong point.
