Tech Talk: Something you might not know about White-Faced Foil? It’s the air gap that helps it work.

Masons White-Faced Foil isn’t just designed to provide a bright, clean internal finish. When it’s being used as a reflective thermal control layer, you need to maintain a minimum 20 mm air gap between the white reflective surface and the cladding, insulation or other building layers.

Why? The reflective surface works by reducing radiant heat transfer, but it needs that air space to do its job effectively. Without the gap, you can’t rely on the same reflective performance.

It’s also worth remembering that White-Faced Foil is not breathable or absorbent, so it shouldn’t be treated as a condensation control layer. The building design still needs adequate ventilation to manage moisture.
Important: White-Faced Foil is not suitable for use in residential buildings, or in sheds that may be used or converted, in whole or in part, for residential purposes.

Project of the Month: Clevedon's Signature Showhome by Signature Homes is a contemporary family home designed around relaxed, connected living, with a strong focus on natural light and indoor-outdoor flow.

Behind the finished design, Masons UNI PLUS Flexible Air Barrier helped keep the build moving. Its use meant interior trades could get underway while the exterior cladding was still being completed — with bricklayers working outside while painters worked inside. A practical example of how the right building system can help keep multiple trades moving and reduce build time.

What a great couple of days at the 2026 Master Brick & Blocklayers Conference! 👏

We kicked things off with a trip over to Stewart Island on day one. A pretty special way to start the conference and a chance to explore a part of the country not everyone gets to visit.

Day two was all about the conference, including the Fastest Trowel competition, which Masons was proud to sponsor. It was great to see the skill, speed and a bit of friendly competition from the competitors.

We wrapped up the day at the awards night, celebrating the achievements of people across the brick and blocklaying industry.

Interior trades progress uninterrupted thanks to Masons’ wrap

Landmark Homes can run its interior fit-out programme independently of the building cladding, using Masons UNI PLUS Flexible Air Barrier.

Four gabled pavilions, flat roof connections, four bedrooms and an outdoor living area with a fireplace: Landmark Homes’ latest Riverhead show home, designed by Trevor Wilson at ARCreate, is ‘a rethink of a pavilion-style home’.
