Samantha Lyle’s Level 3 CNC achievement is now leading to a machining apprenticeship.

Congratulations to Samantha from High Duty Plastics in Rotorua, who has completed the Mechanical Engineering CNC Operator (Micro-credential) (Level 3) through ATNZ.

High Duty Plastics is now supporting Samantha into a machining apprenticeship, giving her the opportunity to build on the skills she has already developed and continue progressing in her trade career.

It’s a great example of how targeted Level 3 training can support further progression, building practical capability in a specific area before moving into broader trade training.

Well done, Samantha, and great to see High Duty Plastics continuing to invest in her development.

Yesterday we had a surprise BBQ and drinks for our longest-serving staff member, Dane Timmer.

Dane started with us as an apprentice at 16 after his Dad told him if he could find a job, he could leave school. Being friends with Greg’s son, he asked Greg if he could come and work for him. 25 years later, he’s still here!

Dane completed his apprenticeship in four years and then spent a decent chunk of time working on our CNC machines, eventually becoming Foreman. He then moved into Sales and, after having to be taught that ‘Ctrl C’ meant copy when he first started, he is now pretty up to date with most computer things and gets our customers’ quotes away quickly.

Thanks Dane for all your hard work over the years, for all the laughs and good banter along the way. You’re an asset to HDP and we are absolutely honoured that you are still here. Here’s to 25 years and counting!

We loved having these future entrepreneurs, engineers and leaders through our workshop! 🛠️

It was great to give these students a look into what we do, how things are made, and how it all works. Hopefully we sparked a few ideas and inspired some future careers along the way!

Who Knew? The iconic luge carts at Skyline are made right here in Rotorua—by us!

Since 1989, High Duty Plastics has been proudly manufacturing the carts (and even the conveyor systems and pick up units that return them to the top!) for Skyline’s luge tracks around the world.

To celebrate 100 million luge rides across 8 global sites, TVNZ’s Seven Sharp stopped by our state of the art workshop last week to film behind the scenes.
HDP machines over 50 components per cart — Tune in and you’ll get a look inside one of NZ’s best-equipped CNC shops.
