The ferry route between Banjul and Barra is the busiest in The Gambia – a vital crossing used by thousands of people every day. Now, with the recent delivery of a Damen RoPax 5212 – named Barra – the voyage has become more efficient.

Capable of operating at speeds up to 9.5 knots, Barra is able to ferry up to 800 seated passengers and 27 vehicles, or a total of 2,000 passengers across the Gambia River in just 25 minutes.

The vessel features hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, enabling low-emission operations and supporting The Gambia’s Recovery-Focused National Development Plan, with its aims to accelerate green economic transformation.

We’re proud to share that Island xwsaĺux̌ul, the seventh of ten Island Class vessels we’ve built for BC Ferries has arrived in British Columbia.

The name xwsaĺux̌ul, meaning “the grassy place,” was gifted by the Snuneymuxw First Nation in the Hul’q’umi’num’ language. It carries deep cultural and historical significance, and we’re honoured to have built a vessel that carries this name.

Designed for BC’s inter‑island routes, the vessel is battery‑equipped and diesel‑hybrid. It is ready for full electric operation as shore‑based charging infrastructure continues to develop a step forward for cleaner, quieter coastal ferry travel and the communities that rely on these connections every day.

We’re proud to be part of this journey with BC Ferries. Congratulations to the BC Ferries team and to the Snuneymuxw First Nation on this important milestone.

We’ve celebrated two significant moments for our offshore wind programme. The CSOV Windcat Antwerpen has officially been named, marking her readiness to begin operations soon.

And as we raised a glass to her, the first steel was cut for the MP-ASV, her larger sister vessel, now officially under construction.

Milestones like these reflect the long-term partnerships and forward planning that underpin everything we do.
From naming ceremony to steel cutting, each step brings our clients closer to a stronger, more capable fleet, built to support the growing demands of the offshore wind industry.

It’s a pleasure to be on this journey together. With Windcat Antwerpen almost ready for action and the MP-ASV just getting started, the best is still to come.

You know where you are with a Damen Combi Freighter (CF).

The series has proven itself over successive generations. Now there are new additions to the family. We have recently launched the CF 6000 and CF 7000. Based on the CF 5000, but with extended hulls, the new vessels offer 20% and 40% more cargo capacity relative to the CF 5000, respectively.

The CF 5000, CF 6000 and CF 7000 all draw on the proven solutions of the Damen CF range. These include box-shaped holds, tween decks and container fittings, with which it’s possible to transport bulk, breakbulk, containerised, and special goods on a single vessel.

All three vessels offer minimal resistance in the water and hybrid and alternative fuel configurations for reduced emissions. Additional efficiency comes via access to options such as wind-assisted propulsion and shore power connectivity.

The vessels are available in ice and non-ice configurations – the ice class variant receiving an efficient boost from the hybrid system and the non-ice variant offering even more efficiency thanks to its lightweight construction.

𝗔 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿. 𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮.

We're proud to share that AFRICAN PEARL has become the first vessel repaired at Damen Shiprepair Dakar following the resumption of the yard's commercial activities.

During her dry-docking, our team completed a comprehensive scope of works – including steel repairs, hull treatment and painting, machinery maintenance, piping repairs and general overhaul. All carried out in accordance with class requirements and to the full satisfaction of the owners and attending surveyors.

This first repair is more than a milestone. It is a sign of what is to come.

We've been working with BC Ferries to measure the underwater noise of their Island Class vessels, sound that travels far beneath the surface and affects the marine world around it.

The waters these ferries sail through are home to the Southern Resident Killer Whale, a federally endangered species, as well as other marine life. These remarkable animals rely on sound to communicate, navigate and hunt.

Through close collaboration and ongoing research, the insights we have gathered are already shaping the next generation of Island Class vessels, with the goal of supporting a cleaner and quieter ferry system with reduced emissions and underwater radiated noise.

For us, sustainability means taking responsibility for every impact we make. Because a better relationship with the ocean starts with listening to it.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀

We've just delivered the LUV 2208 to Blueshell Mussels, a family-run mussel harvesting business in Scotland. Thanks to our stock-building programme, the vessel was ready to go almost immediately after signing the contract.

Now named Bountiful, she'll be supporting the team's operations in the waters around Shetland. It's great to see a vessel find such a fitting home and such a fitting name! We wish the Blueshell Mussels team every success with their new vessel and their operations in the waters off northern Scotland.
