The future of Engineering in Ireland is being built by students today, and at Avonmore Electrical Co. Ltd, we are proud to support them. That’s why we sponsor the TUS Motorsports team.

Last week Gerry O Connor and David Connell were delighted to meet Nathan Killane and Daragh O'Grady. They represent the team of 30+ students of the Technical University of the Shannon from different disciplines united by one goal: take part in the Silverstone Formula Student competition.

The car, with its engine repurposed and redesigned from an old Honda bike, the chassis and suspension designed, built and manufactured by the students, is the result of hard work, creativity and ingenuity. It represents what happens when the next generation designs their path, supported by their mentors, and Irish companies like .

We wish the team every success at Silverstone and can’t wait to follow their progress on the track.

As an ABB Motors “Authorized Repairer”, Avonmore Electrical are entrusted with the overhaul and maintenance of critical equipment that supports essential industrial operations.

Last month, a 1000 kW 6.6 kV Main Cooling Water Pump motor used by a major Irish energy company arrived at our workshop for a planned overhaul. While a motor of this size can pose a significant challenge, our state-of-the-art workshop facilities, with handling capabilities of up to 20 tonnes, enable us to undertake projects of this scale with confidence and efficiency.

What we did:
- Collected motor from the operating site
- Full disassembly and inspection
- Electrical testing of the windings
- Refurbishment of the bearing housing bush and bearing replacement
- Rotor rebalancing
- Vibration Analysis
- Full testing before the unit was returned to service

What does a typical day in our workshop look like?

On any given day, our Workshop team execute a range of complete mechanical and electrical overhauls on units that arrive in various operating conditions and in need of repair. Our Workshop returns these units to customers fully restored, tested, and performing to the highest standard. Each repair is completed with careful attention to detail to ensure long-term reliability and efficiency.

At the same time, brand-new motors are also being dispatched on the very same day they are ordered, thanks to our extensive stock availability. Maintaining a wide and diverse inventory allows us to respond quickly to customer requirements and minimise downtime by supplying the right products without delay.

While the images shown represent only a small selection of the projects completed in our facility, they reflect the wide variety of repair, refurbishment, testing, and supply work carried out at Avonmore Electrical every single day.
