Our Engineers and Technicians were recently on site at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, carrying out precision laser alignment on a Goulds pump.

Correct alignment helps reduce vibration, minimise unnecessary wear and keep critical equipment operating reliably - helping prevent problems that can lead to unplanned downtime.

Meet Our New Apprentices 👋

Investing in the next generation of skilled tradespeople is something we’ve always believed in at Avonmore Electrical.

This year, we’re welcoming six new apprentices across our Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting (MAMF) and Electrical apprenticeship programmes. With a mix of first-year and transfer apprentices, each of them is beginning an exciting new chapter, and we’re proud to be part of their journey.

For us, apprenticeships are about far more than simply learning a trade. They’re about passing on knowledge, developing confidence, building careers and ensuring the skills that keep our industry moving continue to thrive for years to come.

This week, we’re pleased to introduce you to Seán Lynch from Carrigaline, who started recently as an MAMF Apprentice. Watch the video to find out more about what he's currently working on in the servo motor lab.

💙Better Together 💙

At Avonmore Electrical, Better Together is more than a value on a page. It’s about coming together, supporting one another and being part of the communities around us.

Over the weekend, 10 members of the Avonmore team from across the business joined 12 TY students from Millstreet Community School for part of their Butter Road Camino - including Avonmore colleagues’ children, Aine and Tadhg.

We were delighted to be part of their homecoming to Millstreet, where they were welcomed by family, friends and the local community, who cheered them on every step of the way. With great company and a brilliant atmosphere, it was a fantastic day to be part of!

The Butter Road Camino saw the students take on the historic Old Butter Road, walking 117 km from Listowel to Cork City over five days, raising vital funds for two incredible causes: Mellon Educate and Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Their journey might be complete, but their fundraising isn’t. Donations remain open until the end of the year, and there’s still plenty of ground to cover to reach their target.

It’s not every day a 6-tonne motor arrives at our workshop for essential maintenance. Projects of this scale demand specialist expertise, purpose-built facilities, and the capability to safely handle heavy industrial equipment.

Currently in our workshop is this 2,000 kW, 6.6kV Alstom Motor from one of Ireland’s leading power generation facilities, undergoing a comprehensive electrical and mechanical overhaul.

The motor’s journey began with careful offloading before being moved into our workshop, where our engineering team is currently carrying out the work required to restore it to reliable operating condition. This includes extensive electrical testing, stator winding, bearing assembly, and balancing.

For critical assets like this, precision work at every stage is essential. With lifting capacities of up to 20 tonnes and Ireland’s largest motor rewinds workshop, the Avonmore Electrical workshop is uniquely equipped to support industries where reliability and planned maintenance are critical.

Keeping industrial ventilation systems operating reliably often comes down to one thing: carrying out the right maintenance before a minor issue becomes a costly failure.

This direct-drive centrifugal fan assembly recently came into our workshop for a complete electrical and mechanical overhaul. Driven by a CEMER IE3 1.5 Kw motor, the unit required a thorough inspection and refurbishment to ensure it was ready to return to dependable service.

Following a controlled dismantle, our engineers completed:
✅Connection verification
✅Electrical assessment of the stator, confirming the windings remained serviceable, with no rewind required
✅Comprehensive cleaning of the stator, rotor and bearing housings, including clearing the cooling fins and restoring airflow by removing the blocked fan grille
✅Bearing replacement
✅Dynamic balancing
✅Precision reassembly
✅Final testing and protective painting

Not every overhaul requires a rewind. By carrying out a detailed assessment first, we’re able to recommend the most appropriate repair, helping customers restore equipment reliability while avoiding unnecessary work.

Ireland has changed a lot in the last forty years. There was no euro, no Celtic Tiger, and many of the machines being worked on in our workshop today hadn’t even been invented yet.

While so much has changed, one thing has remained constant: the dedication and commitment to quality work of our people. Many of our team have built their careers with us over the years, bringing craftsmanship to every job. It’s the knowledge passed down through our long-serving team that allows us to deliver the quality our customers rely on today.

John O’Shaughnessy is a perfect example of that commitment. He joined when our base was still in Millstreet and has been an integral part of every move and milestone since.
Last week, the entire team came together to celebrate his ruby anniversary with him.

Thank you, John, for forty years of dedication, diligence, and attention to detail. We’re proud to have you as part of our team and look forward to many more years together.
