Two weeks and a shared commitment to working safely.

As the Construction Industry Federation's Safety Campaign 2026 draws to a close, we had a busy and very worthwhile fortnight of activities.

With Back to Basics as this year's theme, our focus has been on reinforcing the everyday actions, decisions and behaviours that help keep our people safe from Dundalk to Drogheda, Ballyhaunis to Ballydesmond, Inagh to Innishannon, Oughterard to Nenagh, Kinvara to Clontarf, Ringaskiddy to Mallow and everywhere in between.

Alongside our regular toolbox talks, site safety briefings and workplace inspections, colleagues across our sites, branches and offices took part in a range of activities covering everything from working at height, confined spaces and electrical safety to mobile plant awareness, driver safety, mental health and wellbeing.

We also welcomed safety speaker James (Jimmy) Gorry back to EPS, whose powerful personal story reminded us just how important it is to stop, think and assess the risks before starting any task.

And throughout the fortnight, our teams have demonstrated that safety isn't simply about following procedures - it's about looking out for one another, speaking up when something isn't right and taking personal responsibility for the choices we make.

A big thank you to our HSQEE team, everyone who organised and delivered the various sessions and particularly to our colleagues across the Group who got involved.

The campaign may be coming to an end, but the conversations, awareness and good habits will continue long after it.

Because ultimately, the most important part of every working day is making sure everyone gets home safely.

Sometimes, the most powerful safety messages come from those who have lived with the consequences.

It was a pleasure to welcome James Gorry back to EPS today to deliver his thought-provoking Work at Height Awareness talk as part of the Construction Industry Federation’s Construction Safety Campaign.

James first joined us as an EPS Safety Ambassador in 2018 and with so many new colleagues joining us since then, we felt it was time to hear his story again.

Sharing the circumstances and decisions that led to a life-changing accident which left him using a wheelchair, James reminded us how easily an "it'll be grand" or "I've done this a hundred times before" mindset can have devastating consequences.

His message was simple but powerful - take a moment to stop, think and assess the risks before starting any task.

Despite everything he's experienced, James brought remarkable positivity, honesty and humour to the room, making his story all the more memorable, impactful and real.

A sincere thank you to James for sharing his experience so openly and reminding us that working safely isn't just about ourselves – it's about the families and loved ones waiting for us at home.

The session began with a practical demonstration of the correct setup and safe use of a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), reinforcing the importance of completing the necessary paperwork, carrying out pre-use checks and following company safety procedures before work begins.

A big thank you to John McCarthy, Hugo O’Connor and Kevin Roche for delivering this demonstration and reinforcing these important safety practices.

⚡Breaking new ground and loving every minute of it!

Meet Amy Jenks, one of the newest members of Team EPS and our first female Electrical Apprentice!

Amy has always been someone who enjoys getting stuck in, working with her hands and learning by doing - so choosing an electrical apprenticeship felt like a natural fit.

And she's certainly hit the ground running!

Settling into life at EPS, Amy is enjoying the opportunity to develop her skills, gain practical experience and learn from the colleagues around her.

She's also keen to encourage more women to consider a career in the electrical trades - and to show that an apprenticeship can be a brilliant route into a rewarding career, regardless of gender.

We're committed to supporting people to develop their skills and build their careers through a variety of pathways.

From traditional apprenticeships in electrical and mechanical trades to opportunities such as the sales apprenticeship, we recognise the value of combining hands-on workplace experience with structured learning, mentoring and support.

And as Amy outlines, there's no single route to building a successful career.

Taking the LEAP! 🚀

Developing the capabilities of our people has always been a core priority and it's a commitment we're continuing to build on through our Strategic Plan to 2030, where Leadership and People are key enablers of our future success.

All three of our Leadership Development Programmes - Frontline Leaders, Leaders in Action and Emerging Leaders - are now officially underway, with colleagues from across the Group coming together at our Mallow headquarters for their opening sessions.

Delivered through EPS Academy and aligned with our Leadership Competency Framework, the programmes are designed to help our people build their confidence, capabilities and leadership skills at different stages of their careers.

Bringing together people from our branches and Group companies across Ireland and the UK, the programmes are about more than developing leadership skills. They're also an opportunity to share experiences, learn from one another and strengthen connections across our wider business.

A week worth looking back on!

We had a wonderful time at the International Water Association's World Water Congress in Glasgow with colleagues from EPS Water UK and Ferrier Pumps joining water professionals from across the globe for four busy days of conversations, connections and shared ideas.

From catching up with customers and partners to making new connections and exploring the challenges and opportunities facing our sector, it was also a great opportunity to showcase the breadth of expertise and experience we have across EPS Group.

Two days, two careers fairs and plenty of conversations about our career opportunities 🎓

Our Recruitment Manager Karen O'Brien has been clocking up the miles over the past couple of days, meeting students and graduates and sharing some of the many opportunities available across the Group.

But she was ably assisted along the way!

First stop was Dundalk Institute of Technology, where Karen was joined by Operations Area Supervisor Thomas Hickey and Graduate Electrical Engineer Dylan Byrne.

Then it was back to Cork for the University College Cork Careers Fair today, where Electrical Engineer Shane O'Driscoll, HSQEE Manager Peter Noonan and Marketing Specialist Rachel Sheehan were on hand to share their experiences of working at EPS.

And that's one of the things we really enjoy about these events - giving students the opportunity to speak directly with people working in different roles across our business.

Because while water and wastewater might be what we're best known for, the range of careers and opportunities behind the work we do is much broader than you might think!

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat over the past two days and to our colleagues for taking the time to represent EPS and share their own career experiences. 👏

End of the road - Route 66 complete!👏

From Missouri and Kansas to Arizona, the Mojave Desert and finally Santa Monica Pier - our Lead Electrical Supervisor Eugene Lynes has completed his fifth Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge in aid of Children's Health Foundation!

And it certainly didn't let him off lightly at the finish!

The final stretch saw Eugene and his fellow Irish 66ers ride through thunder and lightning in the Mojave Desert, before temperatures climbed to around 40°C as they made their way into California - eventually reaching the end of Route 66 at Santa Monica Pier.

This year's trip marks the 12th Route 66 challenge for the Irish 66ers and Eugene's fifth time taking it on.

Since the first trip in 2002, the challenge has now raised in excess of €6 million for Children's Health - an extraordinary total built mile by mile by everyone who has taken part, fundraised, sponsored and supported the event over the years.

We're very proud to have supported Eugene once again - and apparently the EPS sponsored t-shirts attracted plenty of attention on their travels too!

Huge congratulations Eugene and all the Irish 66ers. A tough challenge, an incredible experience and most importantly, all in support of a very worthy cause. ❤️

Excellent day of engagement and networking at the 2026 Irish District Energy Association (IrDEA) conference, fantastic announcements to get things going from Minister Darragh O'Brien TD on the allocation of capital funding and 9 projects receiving pre construction funding.

Gareth Wilson was in attendance on our behalf and caught up with our friends at HeatGrid Ireland, Codema, Fingal, Monaghan, Kildare & Louth County Council & AECOM who are receiving funding for these projects.

Great to hear from stakeholders across the sessions on the progress made this year.

Congratulations to IrDEA team for another successful event - we're looking forward to supporting this developing market sector in Ireland.
