COWI, a leading international engineering consulting group, has acquired PUNCH Consulting Engineers. Following the acquisition by COWI, PUNCH Consulting Engineers will become part of COWI’s UK and Ireland business and will be known as PUNCH Consulting Engineers, a COWI company. Clients and industry collaborators will benefit from a stronger, more comprehensive delivery partner combining local insight with global expertise.

The move will create new opportunities for employees across the combined business, giving teams access to wider international expertise, larger and more complex projects, and broader career development pathways across the COWI Group.

Tim Murnane, Managing Director at PUNCH Consulting Engineers: “We are very excited for PUNCH to become part of the COWI Group at a seminal time in the development of our country. Responding to the unprecedented level of infrastructure investment planned by our government requires the best global expertise and the best local knowledge to ensure we deliver for our clients and country. We have built our business around strong client relationships, technical excellence and a commitment to delivering sustainable engineering solutions across buildings, infrastructure and the wider built environment. COWI shares those values, and this move gives us the opportunity to build on our legacy while opening new pathways for our teams and clients, with our people benefiting from access to wider international expertise, larger and more complex projects and new career development opportunities across the COWI Group.”

By bringing together PUNCH’s strong local presence and expertise and COWI’s global capabilities, we are creating a stronger platform to deliver complex, large-scale projects that support Ireland’s green transition. Together, we are better equipped to support increasing demand for low-carbon, resilient solutions across buildings, industry, transport, and energy.

The Kilmurry Lodge Hotel in Castletroy, Co. Limerick, is progressing well on site. The reinforced concrete frame was finished ahead of schedule thanks to the Post Tensioned Slabs designed by Subterra Group Ltd. The next structural challenge will be the construction of two steel link bridges between the new concrete structure and the existing hotel.

We look forward to continuing to the next stages of the project.

We are delighted to share that the Merchant’s House Complex project in Kilmallock has successfully progressed to Design stage. The design proposal for the complex aims to conserve and enhance, with suitable interventions, the middle and rear sections of the Merchant’s House, transforming it into adaptable multifunctional spaces while also restoring the adjoining buildings.

The complex will include an Innovation Hub to support micro, small, and start-up enterprises in creative industries, including animation and production; Community/Civic facilities for meetings, events, and exhibitions; and Tourism Facilities, including visitor information and interpretative installations.

Additional features will include:
🌱A restored medieval garden
🛍️Retail spaces
☕️A café
🌿Greenspace in the burgage plots at the rear

The project aspires to draw in entrepreneurs, visitors, and community groups, boosting pedestrian footfall, enhancing vibrancy, and creating synergy with the nearby Friar’s Gate Theatre.

We are looking forward to progressing the project for Limerick City and County Council. PUNCH will provide Civil & Structural Engineering services, working alongside our design team partners.
