Thermal bridging can have a significant impact on building performance, yet they are often overlooked during design and construction.
Poorly detailed junctions and penetrations can lead to:
❌ Heat loss
❌ Surface condensation
❌ Mould risk
❌ Reduced energy efficiency
❌ Occupant discomfort

Join our NEW CPD webinar on June 26th to explore the fundamentals of thermal bridging and learn how effective detailing can help improve thermal performance, minimise risk and support compliance with modern building standards.

We'll cover:
✔️ Common thermal bridge locations
✔️ Junction detailing
✔️ Retrofit considerations
✔️ Condensation risk
✔️ Improving thermal continuity

Whether you're an architect, engineer, contractor or building professional, this session will provide practical guidance for designing and delivering more energy efficient buildings.

Most airtightness issues don't occur in the middle of a wall, they occur at the interfaces, penetrations, fixings, and junctions where continuity is interrupted⚠️

The challenge isn't specifying an airtight membrane. It's maintaining airtightness consistently across the entire building envelope during construction.
VARA VISCO SA™ takes a different approach✅

As a fully self-adhesive, humidity-variable vapour control layer, it creates a continuous airtight surface from the moment it's installed, reducing reliance on mechanical fixings and complex detailing🙌🏻

✅ The result is a more robust airtightness strategy, greater installation consistency, and improved confidence in long-term performance.
🏗️ For designers, contractors, and installers, it's a simpler way to achieve better outcomes.

VARA VISCO SA™ is not another vapour control layer. It is the first fully self-adhesive vapour control membrane designed by Partel for internal airtightness control in high-performance building envelopes.

No mechanical fixings. No patch sealing dependency. No compromise on continuity.

Vara Visco SA delivers a fully bonded airtight layer that reduces uncontrolled air leakage from the inside out while maintaining a supportive, durable performance across the building envelope.

Where it gets serious is the testing profile.

This is a continuous control layer designed to behave like part of the structure, not an accessory added after the fact.
Airtightness is no longer installed. It is laminated in.

One of the most interesting findings from the recent BE-ST Fire Safe Mass Timber in the UK research wasn't the discussion around timber itself.

It was the emphasis on detailing, interfaces, and continuity across the building envelope.

At Partel, this reflects what we see across high-rise, Passive House, and offsite projects every day:

➡️ The biggest performance risks rarely come from a single product.
➡️ They occur at the interface.

Window openings, façade penetrations, membrane transitions, and structural junctions are increasingly defining whether a building delivers long-term fire safety, airtightness, moisture control, and durability.

As buildings become more complex, the quality of the detail is becoming just as important as the specification itself.

Read our latest article exploring why tested details, fire-safe interfaces, and integrated façade design are becoming critical to the future of mass timber construction.

Site progression update from the University College Dublin Sports Complex 🏗️

Great to see continued progress on site with Dara McGowan across two building units, where a performance-led approach is driving the facade installation process🙌🏻

EXOPERM MONO 250 SA is being installed as the primary external membrane, helping to expedite facade installation through its fully self-adhered application while delivering a vapour-open, windtight layer to the external envelope.

To support long-term building performance, Partel carried out detailed build-up reviews alongside WUFI hygrothermal modelling, enabling assessment of interstitial condensation risk and optimisation of moisture safety within the structure🏢

CONEXO has also been applied at junctions and penetrations to maintain airtight continuity throughout the building envelope.

Projects like this highlight the value of early-stage analysis, correct system integration, and efficient onsite application in delivering buildings that perform as designed.
