Our engineers attended site to safely isolate, disconnect, and remove the pump unit before bringing it back to our workshop for a full inspection and overhaul

By carrying out a complete mechanical and electrical refurbishment, we were able to extend the life of the equipment and ensure reliable operation for the customer.

⚙️ Precision starts with perfect balance.

In gear grinding, the quality of the finished component depends on far more than just the machine and the wheel. One of the most critical steps is dynamic balancing after the final profile dressing.

For this project, we dynamically balanced a Ø340 mm gear grinding wheel on our Hofmann Z200 balancing machine to ISO G1.0 tolerance at a service speed of 2,000 rpm.

The wheel, weighing 30.6 kg, was mounted on a balancing hub that allows correction weights to be added in a machined recesses on both balancing planes, enabling accurate two-plane correction.

📊 Certified balancing results:
Before balancing
• Plane 1: 15.181 g
• Plane 2: 10.635 g
After balancing
• Plane 1: 0.448 g
• Plane 2: 0.571 g
•
With an allowable residual unbalance tolerance of 0.731 g per plane, the finished result comfortably met the ISO G1.0 specification, ensuring the wheel is ready to deliver maximum grinding accuracy.

Back in top condition and ready to return to site🛠️😃

These two unusual fan motors from a chiller condenser have recently undergone a complete overhaul in our workshop, with one of the motors also requiring a full rewind to restore it to peak operating condition.

Following comprehensive inspection, refurbishment, testing, and final quality checks, both motors are now ready to be reinstalled by our engineers, helping to get the customer's chiller system back up and running with confidence.

Projects like these demonstrate the value of skilled motor repair and refurbishment, extending the life of critical equipment while providing a cost-effective alternative to replacement.

⚙️ Engineering Solution for a Critical Agitator Repair ⚙️

Recently, our workshop was tasked with an urgent repair project for a customer who needed a fast turnaround to minimise downtime.
The unit was a side-entry agitator removed from a furnace cooling tank. Following inspection, we found that the existing gearmotor was beyond repair. Unfortunately, a direct replacement carried a lead time of approximately 5 weeks — far too long for our customer's operational requirements.

Rather than accepting the delay, our technical team, Tony and Luke, engineered an alternative solution. By re-engineering a geared motor from a different manufacturer to suit the existing application, they were able to provide a fully compatible replacement while significantly reducing the turnaround time.

Once the unit was reassembled and tested, it was finished off with a fresh coat of blue spray paint, giving it a clean and professional finish ready for service.

This project highlights the value of technical expertise, problem-solving, and thinking beyond standard replacement options to keep our customers running.

Our team recently completed a precision shaft alignment on a large fan unit equipped with a grid-type coupling, using the CEMB Hofmann AL30 laser alignment system.

Shaft alignment is a critical maintenance task that ensures the rotational centre lines of the driver and driven equipment are correctly aligned. Even small amounts of misalignment can lead to significant issues over time, including:

❌ Increased vibration levels
❌ Premature bearing failure
❌ Coupling wear and damage
❌ Higher energy consumption
❌Increased downtime and maintenance costs
❌ Reduced equipment reliability and lifespan

Although grid couplings are designed to accommodate a degree of misalignment and absorb shock loads, they should not be relied upon to compensate for poor machine alignment. Proper alignment helps the coupling perform as intended while protecting the connected equipment.

Using the CEMB Hofmann AL30 laser alignment system allowed us to accurately measure and correct both horizontal and vertical misalignment, ensuring the fan unit operates efficiently and reliably.

Regular shaft alignment is a simple but highly effective way to improve equipment performance, reduce maintenance costs, and maximise asset life.
