Hello there adventurers! Something a little different this evening, though something I reckon you might very well appreciate :)

One of the joys of being a craftsperson is finding myself surrounded by other creative folk, from florists & musicians to other craftsfolk & writers. If you follow me, it's a safe bet you're likely a fan and one of those creatives yourself, possibly with a flair for the historical & fantastical.

My good friend Dan Fox has finally opened the doors to a project he's been working away at for a while; the creation, narration & production of a fantasy series of his own creation, available for free on his Youtube channel that went live yesterday. As someone whose listened to him wax lyrical and tell tall tales with wonderful abandon over the years, I am heartily looking forward to working my way through this series whilst I forge.

One particular perk I like is the complete aversion to AI, with all writing, production & narration coming from one slightly mad, eccentric human.

If you're the type that appreciates a good audiobook, might I be so bold as to recommend you hop on over to his Youtube channel (link below) and give it a listen? And whilst ye there, throwing a Subscribe to the channel is a marvellously free way of supporting another creative put some great art out into the world!

Many thanks and, as always, thanks for helping support us eccentrics!

Greetings Traveler. I do not know how you came to be here. Perhaps you were invited. Perhaps you sought me out, or perhaps you simply stumbled in out of the cold. It matters not. You are here now and that is what matters most, so allow me to introduce myself. I am a humble weaver of tales. A wordsmi...

Blacksmith Meanderings; Are blacksmiths magical?

03/06/2026

This ones for Empire LRP (TLDR; Blacksmith lessons are back!)

Good day, adventurers! It's me again, come warm yourself by the forge and let me tell you about what me and the travelling smithy are bringing this event :)

For those who don't know me, I'm the blacksmith of Firehound Forge and we may have crossed paths at What's Your Game, LarpCon, Curious Pastimes or past Empire events. After a good long rest & building a brand new travelling smithy, I'll be bringing blacksmith lessons back again this coming event.

Lessons are taught one-on-one, last an hour and are £40 each. Safety specs and leather apron will be provided, and I recommend a sturdy pair of boots. Friends are welcome to heckle.
Items I'm happy to teach are a cloak pin, a trolls cross, a letter opener or an ammonite pendant, and obviously you keep what you make. That being said, if you want to make something specific, let me know and we'll see what we can make, with lessons running from Friday morning until Saturday evening.

Feel free to either pop along at the event and see when we can fit you in, or pre-book below. Below is a schedule with all the available timeslots, all you need to do is leave a comment below with your name and which time slot you'd like. I'll take payment when you arrive and must beg ye to be on time, as if you're late I'll offer the slot to anyone waiting. Don't make the blacksmith sad, be on time!

So if you’d fancy trying your hand at forging, drop on by. The smithy will always provide a warm welcome!

Teaching schedule for Empire Larp "Spring Equinox" (12th to 14th June 2026);

Friday;
10:30am - Andrew Russell
12pm - Kate Milner

Can't believe it's my first time making one of these, I'll very likely be adding them to my market stock items in the near future!

Just back from trading at Bearded Theory Festival & a couple days travelling afterwards; sunburnt, knackered & ready to go! Going to spend a couple day's catching up on correspondence & emails, as I've been away from the computer this last week. If you're awaiting a response from me, thank you for your patience & I shall get back to ye!

Bearded Theory Festival was wonderful, though I must admit I only lit the fire up for a few hours each day. The heat made forging rather daunting! I did manage to make a handful of bits for people and a rather snazzy spoon for myself, so some productivity was had. Thank you for everyone who dropped by, had a chat and bought something from the travelling smithy :)

Also a couple bits of news from the Patreon! 30th May is the cut off point for joining the “Friends of the Forge” paid tier, if you'd like to be included in May's rewards, as I'll be posting them out shortly after. This month's is a leaf keyring

If you'd rather just stay up to date with some behind-the-scenes bits, random ramblings & musings from the forge and out on the road from the travelling smithy, you're able to join as as free member and access pretty much everything as well.

My plan is to demonstrate forgework, festivals and general business shenanigans on Facebook, whilst using Patreon as a mix of newsletter, blacksmith blog, collection of ramblings and whatever other meandering thoughts that I think might entertain you all. I may very well end up just typing into the void, but it's a rather cathartic exercise regardless!

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading all that & your continued support. I hope the sun kind & the breezes a'plenty wherever you're reading from, and look forward to catching you next time I see you!

A bespoke cloak pin done on commission last week, finally done & out in the post this morning. Getting the colour right was tricky, as I had to resort to speckled layers of bright red & satin blank before lacquering. Still, turned out rather neatly!
