To mark All Saints Day present a solid brass Oval Plate Handle with flower design, in Antique Brass finish, from our Collection of authentic 18th century designs.

All Saints' Day (All Hallows) is a beautiful Christian festival celebrated throughout the world on 1 November to honour every saint, both those known and the many unknown and unsung who have lived holy and exemplary lives. It is a day of feasting and flowers when it is customary for families to attend church and visit cemeteries to lay flowers and candles on the graves of their deceased loved ones.

The feast has been celebrated in Britain since the beginning of the 8th century. Some suggest that the November date was chosen to replace Samhain, the Celtic festival of the dead, others that the date was a Germanic rather than a Celtic idea.

The feast of All Saints may also be traced to the foundation by Pope Gregory III (731–741) of an oratory in St. Peter's for the relics "of the holy apostles and of all saints, martyrs and confessors, of all the just made perfect who are at rest throughout the world".

Classic H E Savill solid brass 18th century Gothic-style Escutcheon and matching Pierced Plate Handle in Antique Brass finish. Made in England.

While the Anglo-Palladian style, representing order and civic virtue, became the dominant national style, Britain's Gothic architectural tradition, associated with the constitution and liberty, and with ancient British freedoms, has retained its appeal. The Georgian period took the Gothic style out of churches and colleges and into domestic settings. The pointed arches and pinnacles inspired by medieval architecture are reflected in these fittings.
