Your dashboard lights up with a fault code and your stomach drops — but before you panic, it's worth knowing that a lot of OBD codes point to parts that can be sourced used for a fraction of what a dealer charges. A P0420 catalyst efficiency code, for example, often comes down to the catalytic converter or an oxygen sensor. A P0340 camshaft position sensor fault, or P0171 lean mixture codes, frequently trace back to sensors, MAF units, or even vacuum components — all things regularly available from breaking vehicles. The part that fixes your fault code might already be sitting on a vehicle we're currently breaking.
