Whilst undertaking our own projects, Alliance Metal sub-contracts to A W Jeffreys, undoubtedly one of the best Architectural Metalwork Companies in the South. They have a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship, working for the largest Tier 1 Principal Contractors on the most prestigious projects in central London.
We are delighted to participate in their projects at The Ritz and in a landmark office refurbishment in the heart of Mayfair.

For the rear of the property the balcony proved a little more challenging.
Not only was it on the 3rd floor, it was also over 2.8 metres wide meaning conventional 17.5mm laminated glass wouldn't be sufficient for the purpose.
With expert advice from Will Dawe-Lane at Q-railing we were advised that by using a product called Sentry glass, the task was achievable.
Again, despite a lot of effort we provided the customer with what they wanted without compromise.

All landing glass is 17.5mm laminated matching the stair glass.
Our customer really wanted the glass to be as seamless as possible.
To accommodate this request, stairflight glass was made in two pieces rather than three and the upper landing one piece, rather than two.
Although this makes the task more demanding, both in terms of setting out and fitment, it's great to fulfill the customers vision without having to persuade them to compromise.
What separates us from other companies is going the extra mile to give them exactly what they want.

It really is rewarding when the glass is returned from the manufacturer and fits with absolute precision.

The only sure-fire way of ensuring that the glass will fit perfectly when fixed to the stair flights is to make templates.
It is a time consuming, skillful process, replicating the finished glass as there are specific requirements to comply with building regulations.
These templates are returned to the glass company for manufacturing, ensuring a perfect fitment when the new glass arrives.

Nothing is left to chance, everything is templated and done with accuracy.
This is the template for the screw holes in the laser cut metal plates which the wooden treads sit on.
All wooden treads are pre-drilled with a pilot hole prior to fitment to ensure the screws have the maximum structural integrity, also avoiding screws breaking-off in the hardwood.

With a great deal of thought we came up with a solution to totally conceal the wiring for a LED stair lighting system our customer had purchased.

The photos show the intricate work performed to achieve the task, using a simple hand held router, a great deal of time and effort, but what a great result.
