Great day today at the Machine Building North Expo!

The New Start Energy team had a fantastic time connecting with manufacturers, OEMs, automation specialists, and industry professionals from across the sector. It was great to have so many conversations around Automation, and to see how businesses are working to improve reliability and reduce downtime in demanding environments.

Specialist Insight: Motor & Drive Mismatch, A Common Overlooked Risk

We recently supported a system where a newly installed motor was paired with an existing VSD. On paper, everything looked compatible, but performance issues quickly followed.

Symptoms included:
• Irregular speed control
• Increased current draw
• Audible motor stress under load

The cause? Subtle mismatch between motor characteristics and drive configuration.

After recalibration and parameter adjustments, performance stabilised.

Engineer Insight:
When pairing motors and drives, don’t rely on “close enough”:

Confirm motor data is fully aligned with drive settings
Review control mode (V/f vs vector) for the application
Check load profile — especially for variable torque systems
