🚛 SCHOOL LEAVER / TRAINEE YARD OPERATIVE

R A Bowers Limited is a long-established, small family-run scrap metal recycling business, and we are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking School Leaver / Trainee Yard Operative to join our friendly team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is keen to learn new skills, gain valuable workplace experience and build a career within a busy, hands-on working environment.
📌 THE ROLE:
Working as part of our yard team, your duties will include:
• Assisting with the day-to-day operation of the scrap metal yard
• Sorting and handling different types of scrap
• Keeping the site clean, tidy and organised
• Assisting customers and suppliers when required
• Loading and unloading materials
• Assisting members of the team with general yard duties
• Learning to identify different types and grades of metal
• Following all company health & safety procedures
• Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required
Full training will be provided, so previous experience within the scrap metal or recycling industry is not essential.
👷THE PERSON:
We are looking for someone who is:
• Reliable and punctual
• Hardworking and willing to learn
• Comfortable carrying out physically demanding work safely as the role involves regular manual handling, lifting and working outdoors
• A good team player
• Friendly and polite
• Able to follow clear instructions
• Keen to develop new skills
• Looking for a potential long-term opportunity rather than simply a short-term job

• Pay: National Minimum Wage
• 45 hours per week: Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm, Saturdays 8.00am to 12.30pm
• The position will be subject to an initial 3-month probationary period, giving both you and the company the opportunity to make sure the role is the right fit on a permanent basis. During this time, we'll provide training and support while you learn the job, develop your skills and settle into the team. Your progress and suitability for the role will be reviewed throughout the probationary period
• Appropriate uniform and PPE provided
Applicants must be aged 18 or over due to the nature of the work and the health and safety requirements of the role.
