Did you know that on Wednesday 12th August a Total Solar Eclipse is happening….?

For millions of Europeans, this will be the first chance to experience totality without leaving the continent since a total solar eclipse on Aug. 11, 1999. A whole generation has never seen the moon completely cover the sun from mainland Europe — though there was a total solar eclipse in 2015 that was visible from the Faroe Islands and Svalbard in the North Atlantic.

The moon is set to cover around 90-96% of the sun in the U.K. and Ireland—the most coverage visible in the region since the total eclipse of 1999! Cornwall is one of the best places in the UK to see this it, with up to 95% of the Sun expected to be covered.

The eclipse will begin at 6.15pm, reaching its maximum at around 7.10pm.

Never look directly at the Sun, even during an eclipse, and don’t point cameras, binoculars or telescopes at it without the right protection. Looking at the Sun can cause permanent damage to your eyesight.
