From embassy to exhibition space.
In 2023, we transformed the Malaysian High Commission in Belgravia into a temporary exhibition space for Abstract Nature — a celebration of Malaysia’s rich weaving and craft traditions, presented by Her Majesty Queen Azizah as part of London Craft Week.
Working within the existing rooms of the High Commission, Judith Clark designed everything to replicate the loom and we fabricated and installed the temporary exhibition environment for Tenun, batik, songket, weaving and other Malaysian heritage crafts.
Douglas fir structures, display furniture, shelving and textile frames were all made to create a flexible framework around the crafts — turning offices and formal rooms (as shown in last picture) into somewhere dedicated to making and craft.
We were particularly pleased to be involved for a second year, following the 2022 Weaving Hope exhibition, and to help bring Queen Azizah’s passion for Malaysian textile and craft traditions to London.
