Including Advanced Guard Rail (AGR) scaffold towers. The heating and cooling hire range has all the space heater hire or air conditioning hire. All require a PASMA: Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association certificate to show that the user is competent to build, use and dismantle them.

A one-day course is what’s separating you from non-compliance to competence.

Our training centre in Leigh is a PASMA-accredited centre and able to train you and your staff to the right level.

Meet Paul 👋🏼

Paul, or Platty as we call him, is our Workshop Manager and is responsible for our team of engineers across all departments. Paul has been part of the Astley Hire family for the past four years, but has spent 30 years in the plant hire industry.

Whether he is the first point of contact with the customer for any engineering requirements, organising the LOLERS and PDIs, mentoring other engineers, fixing an issue on site, or just repairing a pair of our Sales team's shoes, Paul is always on hand to help.

A common phrase you will hear around the yard if someone has a problem: "Ask Platty, he'll know."

LOLER. Five letters that matter more than most people realise until there's a problem.

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 require all MEWPs — scissor lifts, cherry pickers, boom lifts — to be thoroughly examined by a competent person at least every six months. A written report must be produced, and records must be kept.

If you own the machine, that obligation sits with you. Find the inspector. Schedule the examination. Store the paperwork. Miss the date, and you're operating non-compliant equipment — whatever else you've done to maintain it.

When you hire from Astley Hire, the LOLER schedule is managed as part of the arrangement. Every machine in our fleet has a current thorough examination in place before it leaves our depot.

Next week our General Manager, Martin Doran, will be speaking at the Wigan & Leigh Hospice Networking event at The Brick Community Stadium on 7th September at 9.30 am.

He will be sharing our journey to becoming carbon neutral, what motivated us to take action, how we became the first UK hire company to achieve verified carbon neutrality, and the steps involved in getting there.

He’ll also give a simple overview of the carbon calculation process and explain some of the key terminology used when measuring and reducing carbon emissions.

Come along, support the hospice, meet some other businesses and learn a bit more about our carbon journey.
