Be it laser cutting, CNC machining, waterjet cutting, powder coating, coded welding & fabrication, heavy engineering, or architectural stainless steel fabrication, the WEC Group has the engineering capacity to answer any customer needs. WEC Group also supply products and services to the UK and European Rail Industry, such as signal structures, gantries, rolling stock metalwork, and OLE electrification structures. WEC are also one of the UK Leaders for CCTV Mounting Solutions and now exports CCTV Poles & Towers as far afield as the Middle and Far East. All divisions of the WEC Group benefit from extensive in-house facilities which means that dependence on external suppliers is kept to an absolute minimum, ensuring standards and lead times can be kept to WEC Group expectations. Today, we celebrated the retirement of Wayland after 25 years with WEC Group 😀

During his time with us, Wayland has worked across numerous roles on the shop floor and Inspection within our Engineering department, making a lasting contribution to the business.

This morning, the team enjoyed a breakfast buffet together where Wayland shared stories and highlights from his 25 years at WEC Group, reflecting on the memories that have shaped his career.

As a thank you for his commitment and loyalty over the years, Wayland was also presented with a cheque.

Everyone at WEC Group would like to thank Wayland for his outstanding service and wish him a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement.

Recently completed and ready for dispatch from WEC Fabrication 👏

This Combustion Exhaust Lined Duct was manufactured in 12 sections, creating an overall length of 25 metres with a diameter of 4.62 metres.

Built with a carbon steel exterior and perforated stainless steel inner, the project took 16 weeks to complete. A great showcase of the size, skill and precision our fabrication team can deliver.

At WEC Group, we are proud to support employees throughout every stage of their career journey.

We recently caught up with Dylan from our IT department, who first joined WEC Group in 2018 as an IT Apprentice and has since progressed into the role of IT Support Engineer.

“I first started at WEC Group in 2018 as an IT Apprentice. I spent 2 years learning the basics of the job and continuously improving my knowledge. After 2 years I became an IT Engineer, where I have now become a highly valued member of the IT team.

On a daily basis, my main job is to provide 1st line and 2nd line support to our users, monitor servers and build computers. I have extended my knowledge by doing more of the administration side which includes getting quotes from suppliers, ordering and monitoring stock.

I have worked here 8 years and I am grateful for the opportunity provided by WEC Group to have a career path where I am progressing further and further.

The things I like about working here are the fact no day is the same, every day presents new tasks and challenges. The yearly profit share bonus is also a brilliant thing, where hard work is rewarded.”

Dylan’s progression from Apprentice to IT Support Engineer demonstrates the long-term career opportunities available across WEC Group, where employees are encouraged to develop their skills, take on new responsibilities and continue progressing within the business.

Not long to go until the WorldSkills UK regional competitions begin at the start of June, and preparations are well underway at WEC Engineering Academy.

Here are some photos from recent training sessions for the Welding category, where our learners have been sharpening their skills ahead of the competition.

After achieving a 100% success rate in the qualifying stage, we’re looking forward to seeing Zak, Archie, Cameron, Amelia, Alex and Callum represent the Academy at the next stage of the competition which will be held in Blackburn (Welding category). Also good luck to Sam, Callum, Harrison and Josh within the Metal Fabrication Category who will be competing at the Regionals in Wales.

Last month, Shop Floor Manager Andy celebrated an incredible 20 years with WEC Group after starting his journey on the very first day the WEC Engineering Academy opened.

From Apprentice to Shop Floor Manager, Andy’s career highlights the opportunities available to those looking to build a successful future in engineering.

“My journey has been amazing, I started as an Apprentice and I am a Shop Floor Manager now. I have enjoyed working out on site too at some of our largest and most interesting jobs including automotive projects, aerospace jobs and bridge fabrication installations.

The thing I enjoy the most is the variety of projects we get coming in, there’s always something different and I’m learning something new every day.

One of the main benefits of working at WEC Group is that there is plenty of overtime if you want it and good bonuses. I certainly would recommend WEC Group to anyone looking to progress their career in engineering.”
