An urgent repair was undertaken on the PST6 rear wheel bearing hub assembly and its associated stand following the identification of significant mechanical damage. Components were collected from site and transported to our workshop for detailed inspection and assessment.
Initial examination revealed that the existing bearings and hub assembly were severely damaged. To restore functionality, the hub was internally bored, machined oversize, and precision-sleeved to reinstate the correct dimensions required for the stand. New, standard double-width SKF bearings were sourced and installed to ensure reliability and long-term performance.
Further assessment determined that the original shaft stand was beyond economic repair due to excessive damage at the hub end. As a result, a replacement stand was manufactured in-house using laser-cut components and MIG welding techniques. A new shaft was also precision-machined and supplied to the fabrication team for integration into the new assembly.
Upon completion of fabrication and welding, the finished component was thoroughly cleaned and protected with a coat of red oxide primer, ready for service reinstatement.
