Leaflet distributors wanted!

Hi, my name is Darren from MAYTRICS LIMITED, your friendly, local and reliable electrician.

The reason for my post today is because I need your help.

I have approximately 20,000 leaflets ready to be distributed across the local area and I am looking for reliable people who would like to earn some extra money.

There are no set working hours and no fixed days that you must work. Leaflets are supplied in batches of 1,000 and once a batch has been delivered, the required proof of delivery has been provided, and any spot checks have been completed, payment will be made by bank transfer.

If you would like to continue delivering additional leaflets, further batches can be provided.

Applications are welcome from responsible individuals of all ages. If the distributor is under 18, parental consent is required and I will speak directly with a parent or guardian before any work is carried out to ensure everyone is happy with the arrangements.

In the past, I have had interest from:

• Parents looking to earn some extra money between school or nursery hours

• Retired people looking to get out of the house and stay active

• Young people looking to earn some extra pocket money (with parental approval)

• People working towards fitness goals who enjoy getting their daily steps in

Proof of delivery is required using a route-tracking app such as Strava, Google Timeline or similar, along with start and finish messages.

Most people see a light switch.

Electricians see everything hiding behind it.

This week, a customer wanted to replace their old white light switches with decorative brass accessories.

Once the existing switch was removed, we discovered an older wooden back box and no CPC (earth conductor) present on the lighting circuit.

Because of this, the decorative metal switch originally chosen wasn't suitable.

Fortunately, we were able to source an alternative from the BG Evolve range. These switches provide the decorative appearance the customer wanted whilst being manufactured from a non-conductive material, making them suitable for this particular installation.

It's a good example of why electrical work isn't always as simple as swapping one fitting for another. What's hidden behind the accessory can often determine what can be installed safely.

🔌 Did you know every standard UK plug contains its own fuse?

Most people know that a UK plug has three pins, but many don’t realise that the plug itself also contains a fuse designed to protect the appliance and cable connected to it.

Inside a standard UK plug:

🟢 Earth (Green/Yellow) – Provides a path for fault current and helps protect against electric shock.

🔵 Neutral (Blue) – Returns current back to the supply.

🟤 Live (Brown) – Carries power to the appliance.

⚡ Fuse – Protects the appliance and flex from excessive current in the event of a fault.

One of the most common issues we see is damaged plugs, loose connections, overheating, or incorrect fuse sizes being fitted. These can lead to melted plugs, damaged sockets and, in some cases, electrical fires.

If you’ve ever noticed:

❌ A plug feeling hot to touch
❌ Brown or black marks around a plug or socket
❌ Cracked plugs or damaged cables
❌ A fuse that repeatedly blows

It’s worth having it checked by a qualified electrician.

To day was a productive day spent working on the business rather than working in it 💪🏼

After a day of marketing, planning and looking at ways to improve the customer experience, I decided to treat myself on the way home and stopped off at Mumma Lourdes Woodfire Pizza at Hawley Memorial Club in Blackwater 🍕

If you’ve never tried them before, I’d definitely recommend giving them a go. Plenty of choice on the menu and the pizza was spot on once again.

One of the things I enjoy about running a local business is being able to support other local businesses whenever I can 👍🏼

Called out to investigate concerns raised by British Gas regarding an oven circuit and alleged missing earth bonding. 👨🏻‍🔧⚡

Inspection found the cooker circuit wired in 6mm cable and protected by a 32A RCBO despite only supplying a 3kW oven. While not immediately dangerous, the protective device was oversized for the appliance.

Further investigation uncovered taped connector block joints behind the oven supplying both the oven and gas hob ignition. The customer had also reported sparking/arcing at the cooker switch above the hob.

To improve safety and practicality, we relocated the cooker isolation point into the adjacent base unit, installed a new cooker connection unit with socket outlet, fitted a correctly fused connection for the hob ignition and replaced the 32A RCBO with a more suitable 16A RCBO.

We also supplied and installed a replacement oven after confirming the original appliance had developed an internal fault.

The “missing bonding” previously reported was already present to both gas and water services, although minor improvements were carried out to the existing water bonding connection.

Another example of why proper investigation and fault finding matters.

A proper local day out today at the Yateley May Fayre ☀️

Sun was out, sunglasses on, music playing — couldn’t have asked for much more.

We already knew what food was on the cards as we’d had a heads up… a mate of mine runs a smoked meat food van serving smashed burgers — Crumpy’s Smoke Shack 🔥🍔
Safe to say it didn’t disappoint.

I highly recommend the “This Little Piggy” burger and the jalapeño croquettes — both spot on 👌🏼

The little one had a go on a few rides, then Grandad turned up just in time for ice creams 🍦 and we finished it off with a play in the park — simple but perfect.
