πŸ” EICR Remedial Works in Yateley – Fault Found & Rectified

We returned to a property in Yateley, Hampshire this morning following an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) that we carried out last week.

The report was unfortunately deemed unsatisfactory after our testing identified an open neutral conductor on the upstairs socket ring circuit.

Upon arriving this morning, the customer already had the kettle on ready to go – always a great start to the job! β˜•πŸ˜‰

After safely isolating the circuit, we began removing and inspecting each of the upstairs sockets. There were approximately eight double sockets on the circuit, and fortunately we located the problem at socket number four.

As you can see from the photo, the neutral conductor had completely come out of the socket terminal, resulting in the loss of continuity identified during the EICR.

We re-stripped and correctly re-terminated the conductor before carrying out further testing to confirm that continuity had been restored and the circuit was operating correctly.

Another great example of why an EICR isn’t simply a visual inspection. Electrical testing can identify faults and defects that may otherwise remain hidden behind sockets, switches and accessories.

⚑ Emergency Electrical Call-Out – Sherfield on Loddon / Bramley, Hook ⚑

We recently attended an emergency call-out following a complete loss of power after a cable was accidentally drilled through while the customer was hanging a picture on the wall.

Unfortunately, the fixing was positioned directly above an electrical accessory, where cables can be expected to run vertically within a recognised cable zone.

We attended the property to assess the damage and safely restore the power. The wall was carefully opened to expose the damaged cable, which was then repaired using a suitable permanent maintenance-free connection.

Once the electrical repair was completed, we even drilled the new fixing for the customer in a safe position, fitted the wall plug and screw, and made good around the area ready for final decoration.

The circuit was then restored and fully tested to confirm everything was safe and operating correctly. βœ…

Fortunately, the protective device operated as intended when the cable was damaged. This could potentially have been a much more serious incident.

πŸ’‘ Electrical Safety Tip: Before drilling or fixing pictures, clocks, shelves or other items to a wall, always consider the position of nearby sockets and switches. Electrical cables commonly run vertically and horizontally from electrical accessories within recognised cable zones β€” so never assume an area is safe to drill simply because you cannot see a cable.

⚑ Sockets installed into a new kitchen island

Following the installation of this new kitchen, we were asked to add power to the island.

The cables were already in position, so we carefully cut the new cabinetry to install the back boxes before fitting these decorative double sockets with USB charging points.

A small detail, but a really useful addition to a kitchen island β€” perfect for charging phones, laptops and powering everyday kitchen appliances. πŸ”Œ

All finished, tested and ready for the worktops to be installed. βœ…

πŸ’‘ How does a two-way light switch actually work?

A two-way switching circuit allows you to control the same light from two different locations, making it ideal for staircases, hallways and landings.

Although it might seem like a simple job, two-way switching can be confusing if you’re unfamiliar with the wiring. Unlike a standard light switch, there are multiple conductors that need to be connected correctly for the circuit to operate safely and operate as intended.

If you’re ever unsure, don’t guess. A qualified electrician will be able to identify the existing wiring, make the necessary changes safely and carry out the appropriate testing before the circuit is put back into service.

At MAYTRICS LIMITED, every installation is carried out in accordance with the current Wiring Regulations, ensuring your electrical installation remains safe, compliant and reliable.
