Depuis 1996, l’UDS est le syndicat national des scénographes : il regroupe depuis sa création plus de 250 scénographes de spectacles, d’équipement, et d’exposition qui exercent en France et à l’étranger. L'UDS a signé en 2004 avec le Syndicat National des Auteurs et Compositeurs (SNAC) et le Syndicat des Directeurs des Théâtres Privés à Paris (SDTPP) une "Charte contractuelle pour les scénographes
de spectacle", reconnaissant au créateur de décors ou de costumes, le double statut de salarié et d’auteur. L'UDS a participé très activement au ministère de l'Intérieur à la commission qui a révisé de 2005 à 2007 le règlement ERP des salles de spectacle. Les objectifs de l’UDS, vont de la reconnaissance du statut des scénographes, au développement de l’insertion des jeunes scénographes et de la recherche dans le domaine de la scénographie. L’UDS est un syndicat indépendant et autonome. L’UDS est membre du SNAC, Syndicat National des Auteurs et des Compositeurs. L’UDS est membre de l’OISTAT, Organisation Internationale des Scénographes, Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre. L’UDS collabore avec le SNMS, Syndicat National des metteurs en scène. L’UDS collabore avec REDITEC, Association Professionnelle des Responsables Techniques du Spectacle Vivant. L’UDS soutient RESOSCENO, Association de promotion des étudiant(e)s en scénographie. L’UDS est présente au niveau national et international. L’UDS organise depuis sa création, des expositions, des colloques, des publications d’ouvrages, des tables rondes, etc...

THE UDS, Union of Scenographers, exists since 1992, succeeding the AFSTT. Since 1996, the UDS is the national labor union of the scenographers and has welcomed since its creation, more than 250 scenographers of shows, equipment, and exhibition who practice in France and abroad. THE UDS signed in 2004 with the National Labor union of the Authors and Composers ( SNAC) and the Labor union of the Managers of Private Theaters in Paris ( SDTPP) a " contractual Charter for the scenographers of show", granting to the creator of sets or costumes, the double status of employee and author. THE UDS participated very actively in the Ministry of the Interior at the commission which revised from 2005 till 2007 the regulation “ERP” for showrooms (security text for Establishments Receiving Public)
The objectives of the UDS, go from the recognition of the status of the scenographers, to the development of the insertion of the young scenographers and to the research in the field of the scenography. The UDS can be defined as a triangle with the three main points: Practice, Training, Research. THE UDS is an independent and autonomous labor union. THE UDS is a member of the SNAC, National Labor union of the Authors and the Composers. THE UDS is a member of the OISTAT, International Organization of the Scenographers, Technicians and Architects of Theater. THE UDS collaborates with the SNMS, National Labor union of the art directors. THE UDS collaborates with REDITEC, Professional Association of the Technical Persons in charge of the live performance. THE UDS supports RESOSCENO, Association of promotion of students in in scenography. THE UDS is present at a national and international level. Since its creation, the UDS organizes exhibitions, colloquiums, publications of works, round tables, etc....
The Union of the Scenographers will publish in 2013, -Acte Sud's-, a general work " Scenographers in France”. Other projects and actions are outlined on the horizon: 2013/2014/2015/...
