A major milestone reached at Jinan Football Center!

The big lift of the cable net for the inner roof of the Jinan Football Center has been successfully completed. The inner tensile roof structure is now erected, following the roof structural design by schlaich bergermann partner (sbp), the architectural vision of HPP Architekten GmbH, and in cooperation with BIAD. Special PTFE mesh membrane will be installed to ensure adequate sunlight exposure for the grass field.

A few notable features about this project:
- Outer truss combined with an inner pre-stressed cable net system and a cable tension ring
- 60,000 seats, cantilevered steel structure with a span of 45 metres + inner cable net structure with another span of 43 meters

The stadium is set for completion in 2026. We can't wait to see the final result! A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this complex and iconic structure to life.

At sbp, we close gaps by building bridges: spanning rivers, valleys, and roads.

Today, it’s about a different kind of span: the German "Brückentag" (Bridge Day), the perfect link between a public holiday and the weekend.

When a public holiday falls on a Thursday, many people take Friday off to “bridge” the gap and enjoy a long weekend.
You could call it a clever piece of everyday engineering.

Happy Brückentag and enjoy the long weekend.

Welcome to sbp!

Last week, we brought together our new colleagues from various sbp offices for two Onboarding Days in Stuttgart. The program combined hard skills and soft skills, from workshops and knowledge sharing to social activities.

A special highlight was a bike tour through Stuttgart, where the group visited several sbp projects and experienced our structures first-hand.

We are glad to have you on board. At sbp, newcomers are encouraged, supported, and trusted to contribute meaningfully from the very beginning.

Feeling inspired? Explore all open positions on our career site in the link below and maybe you'll be part of the next Onboarding Days at sbp this autumn! https://loom.ly/pY7xKbw

We’re excited to share some great news from Tuttlingen:
The Town Hall Footbridge Tuttlingen has been awarded the Holzbaupreis Baden-Württemberg 2026.

The prize was presented on 6 May 2026 at the 5th Timber Construction Congress in Friedrichshafen. The project, submitted to the competition by the architects, was selected from 78 entries and convinced the jury with its innovative semi-integral structure and the sensitive use of timber, steel and concrete. The new foot and cycle bridge extends the line of Rathausgasse across the Danube, linking northern residential areas directly with the town centre and creating a light, elegant landmark in the urban landscape.

This is already the second major recognition for the project: in 2025, the Town Hall Footbridge Tuttlingen was named Joint Winner in the “Short Span” category of the Footbridge Awards.

A big thank you and congratulations to everyone involved!

Your vote matters: concap® in the DGNB Sustainability Challenge final.

We are proud to be nominated in the Innovation category and excited to see concap® recognized among this year’s leading ideas for sustainable construction. The public voting for the DGNB Sustainability Challenge 2026 is now open.

👉 Vote for concap® until 16 June: https://loom.ly/lLCBzt0

With concap®, schlaich bergermann partner sbp and the thomas gruppe rethink the vault slab as a circular, resource‑efficient precast system. By using the structural efficiency of an arch, concap® reduces concrete consumption by around 50 to 60 percent while meeting the requirements of modern building construction. Every vote counts. Let’s continue driving structural innovation and sustainable construction together. Thank you for your support!

Last week, the new Sentry Bridge was successfully lifted into position at Watkins Glen State Park, New York, marking a major step in the renewal of the iconic pedestrian entrance to the Gorge Trail.

schlaich bergermann partner is the project lead for the replacement of this historic pedestrian bridge. Although the bridge has become a symbol of the park, time and harsh weather have worn away the historic bridge’s supporting abutments, making a full replacement necessary. The new structure reinterprets the former 1908 concrete arch as a lightweight, contemporary half‑arch that echoes the original curved form while quietly integrating into the dramatic gorge landscape.

Early consideration of construction sequencing allowed the bridge to be installed in a single lift, reducing construction time and minimizing disturbance within the sensitive gorge site.

We are proud to see the bridge take its place and look forward to welcoming visitors back to this remarkable landscape later this year.

We are proud to announce that ’s Williams Crossing Pedestrian Bridge has won Bridge of the Year 2026 by the AISC and the National Steel Bridge Alliance, following the live audience vote at the World Steel Bridge Symposium in Atlanta. Being selected as one of three finalists was already a great honor. Presenting our project to the international bridge community and being recognized with this award is truly special.

Williams Crossing is defined by its innovative use of a deck stiffened arch structure utilizing slender steel plates for the arches and spandrels, marking the first application of this structural concept in the United States. The stiff composite deck prevents the slender arches from excessive bending by transferring unbalanced loads within the bridge deck, enabling an slender cross section as well as a refined curvilinear form in plan and elevation. During construction, close collaboration across engineering, fabrication and er****on was essential to achieve this elegant weathering steel crossing for the City of Tulsa.

Thank you to the WSBS audience for their vote and heartfelt congratulations to the entire project team whose dedication and expertise made this achievement possible.
