🧠 New research insights into Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS)

Could speech support the monitoring of cognitive changes in Alzheimer’s disease?

A recent open-label pilot study by Prof. Ulrich Sprick, Dr Daniel Wiechmann, Dr Ali Günes and colleagues explored digital speech biomarkers in patients receiving TPS with the NEUROLITH.

🔬 Key findings:

🔹 Within the pilot sample, the Speech Composite Index (SCI) was associated with established cognitive assessments, including the MMSE (r = 0.76).

🔹 In nine TPS-treated patients, the modelled average SCI remained relatively stable compared with an external decline benchmark, while individual trajectories varied.

These preliminary findings suggest that speech-based measures could potentially support cognitive monitoring in future TPS research. Larger, sham-controlled studies are needed to further investigate and validate this approach.

Some common warning signs include:

3. Disorientation regarding place and time
4. Problems with judging visual input

These signs do not necessarily mean that a person has Alzheimer’s disease. However, persistent changes should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
