Ben & Danielle, owners of Southern Downs 4x4, tackling Cape York back in 1999 in their 1989 LN106 Hilux. Things were a but simpler back then. No crowds, no influencers, no lithium dual battery setup or coffee machines! Just an Engel fridge and a foam mattress!

Something a bit different today. It’s not easy installing auxiliary lighting on modern cars. You can’t just “tap into the headlight” to pick up the high beam trigger. You need to access the vehicle’s CAN Bus system to access the high beam interface. This is often behind the dash or cluster which requires care and skill to access.

We use a CAN Bus High Beam Output Interface module. This is a specialized electronic module that detects digital high-beam signals on modern vehicle CAN Bus networks and converts them into a standard 12V analog output to trigger aftermarket driving lights or light bars.
